As many of you might have heard with the recent update of the game some original (and imo absolutely crucial) music has been removed. On GOG we have the option to archive our offline installers to prevent us from such downgrades we never paid for but for those who accidentally already replaced their offline installers with ver 0.4.8.14, I decided to create a fix that will restore the music to the game as it was intended. I tested it quite a bit and everything worked fine so far - still I can't give a guarantee that it will work perfectly without any unwanted side effect (although side effects are highly unlikely).

You can get the patch here.

Thanks for the effort creating a patch.
I really really have no wish to edit renpy scripts myself :)

Is the patch for both seasons?

Looks as if I was too fast deleting the old installers. But having 6.3 TB of (original) GOG installers doesn't allow to keep old versions really.

You're welcome. Yes, the patch is for both seasons. For the record, I did not edit any renpy script at all, I simply used the scripts from the previous version as well as the audio file package in which the removed songs are included. This patch SHOULD behave as if the update never happened and as far as I could test it it does.

I see.
I thought you merged it with a non GOG version, since your old installers are gone. In my case I would have had to do that.
Luckily you still had it installed unpatched :)

A diff patch between the old GOG version and the current one is of course the best solution.

I recently experienced a headcrash so my old installer is gone NOW but luckily I created the patch one day before this happened when I still had both versions and both installers.

To create it I used a file compare program and as far as I could see these were the crucial files responsible for the missing songs. Unfortunately I never learned how to create a true diff-patch so this is the best I could offer without the patch getting too big. A few other files were changed as well but after examining them they did not seem to include important changes at all.

Nah, it's good, what you did actually meets the criteria.
Ther are different ways to do it. One would be of course text based (changing single lines in source code files for example), but treating all files as binaries is also a valid way. File differs? Replace it. Done.
That takes more space and is not really good for tracing changes during development, but for patching it's absolutely ok.

I bought Season 1 on Steam just days before it became available on GOG (bad timing; I know). Would the patch work with the Steam version, or is it only the GOG version that I can patch?

I cannot guarantee it but I think there's a good chance it will work. The patch is just an archive with 3 files in it. Simplky backup those files from your orginal installation (they are in the subfolder called "game") before extracting the package into your game directory. If the game starts and you can hear Friday Prophets at the start of the game chances are very high that the rest will work as well - if not you just need to put your archived original files back into the game directory and you unfortunately will have to live with the replacement music.

Okay, so here's what happened:
When I started the game on Steam, "Punk Rock Flu" played (and I was seriously excited), but the game showed the GOG logo on-screen, and when I clicked Continue, it showed my saved games as "Invalidated". I didn't start a New Game, because I didn't want to mess with things any more, but it seems that Steam saves and GOG saves, at least, are not compatible. I guess I'll just wait for the GOG version to get cheaper before buying and install the fix in the GOG version.

But thank you so much for the fix and for answering my question. I really do appreciate you. :)

I guess it was a good thing that you did not load any of your saves. Like I said, to create this patch I simply compared two GOG versions and the GOG version is known to be not compatible with Steam saves. So if you have already started the game it really is unlikely that your saves would work ... even though you could in theory start a new game which probably would then create GOG saves which then would not be compatible with future Steam seasons ... the main problem being GOG and Steam saves are not compatible. Not much I can do about it, sorry. In any case: starting with the the Interlude and Season 3 the old music WILL be gone anyway. I purchased these on Patreon and while I still have the Interlude with Punk Rock Flu there simply never existed any episode 9 with these somgs so it is impossible for me to add them. So even if you would buy Season 1 and 2 here on GOG again, be aware that these will be the only Seasons which you still can patch the old music in. If this is worth spening additional money is up to you of course :)

Thank you again! :)
Great job, dude!
When I raised the possibility of modding the game on Steam forums they locked my thread, lol.

Let's see if GoG has less problems with censorship.

If I would be in a mood I will write a Python script to revert only the music-related changes but keep the rest. My Python skills are very rusty at this point, not gonna look pretty.
