While playing the new Career mode (Patch 1.3) and chasing down the new Flashpoints (DLC), I'm often on planets with 0.5 or 1.0 skull missions. Since I don't want to turn down free money and adventure, I feel obligated to run these missions. :)

However, they are boring milkruns with my nicely kitted Mediums and Heavies that I use for the 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0 skull Flashpoints. And then boom, an amazing discovery...

I can send a lance of only one, two, or three mediums with some new pilots to make it interesting. Just did a couple of three mech lances and about to do my second two mech lance. Not sure if I have the nerve to try a single mech. I'm imagining a bunch of commandos or worse yet, Jenners jumping into my rear arc and lighting me up. Would be a very "payback" oriented mission after the infinite number of times I did that to an enemy Medium or Heavy during an assisination mission.

I feel sorta stupid not having figured this out before now. Two full playthroughs on the campaign and 100 hours now into a career. Oops. You know the saying about old dogs...
Holy crap! It's like a completely different game.

Two mechs have to figure out how to intercept a convoy or take out the turrets while four lightly armored gnats annoy the crap out of 'em. How many free shots can you give the gnats while you sprint to the woods with your crappy, newly hired pilots. Hahahahahaha.

No more Reserve, Reserve, Bulwark + Cover with these morons. Pretty much guaranteed internal damage due to heat effects when you finally close with the enemy. No punch pulling since the gnats have too much firepower to let them get too many free shots.

Definitely fun!
Interesting. Will try this out.
