I restored a Highlander with its Gauss rifle. While I understand the Gauss rifle to be LOStech how come the ability to find and install extra ammo for it is not available. The books did mention the ammo was nothing more than a metallic watermelon that gets accelerated by magnets, (even could fire a steel girder if necessary( while desperate and out of regular ammo).
The ammo feeding cant be that different from other auto cannons, so the techs should be able to set extra ammo on a location.

I experienced the loss of a gauss ammo location and could not fix it or install more ammo since there is no signs of them in stores.

There are places that sell Gauss Ammo, but it is uncommon. The idea is that you have to really baby your LosTech, because it's LosTech. That said, in later patches, HBS/Paradox did add in a lot more to the game.

Right now, your only options are to load a save from before your ammo bin blew up, or go checking at the planetary stores every time you're at a planet with Manufacturing, Research, Battlefield, Rich, or Black Market modifiers.

From a "realism" perspective (which is always dodgy when talking about games with big stompy nuclear powered robots and FTL travel), the ammo isn't just the actual projectile - it's also the bin and loading mechanism. If I gave you a GAU-8 and a backpack full of rounds with no loader or ammo belt, you'd have a real hard time making it work effectively.

I thought only the ones with the Star League tag can sell them rarely.

LosTech, sure. I *think* Gauss Ammo is different, because it was also obtainable before there was a Star League tag in the game, and those were the places where it could be found.

It wasnt obtainable before 1.3 without modding and now afaik its just in files for "Starleague worlds" but you wont get it always. Maybe there is a chance on Blackmarket worlds and for sure you can get some in flashpoints (got some there as reward)

I 've finished the story line, and there are no more flashpoints. Was allied with 4 factions. I wandered around spending 10 million c-bills and still haven found any Gauss ammo as rewards, salvage or stores.

Also why is it you don't use ammo but it can get destroyed. I think you should have to buy more if you use it up. You should also be able to make Gauss rifle ammo if you have the machine shop.

You do. The devs have explicitly said that ammo costs are rolled into the monthly maintenance you pay for your 'Mechs. Yeah, that's abstracted, but nearly everything is in the game. It would take a massive effort to pull out just the direct costs from the abstracted pool.

Finally found 1 ton of Gauss Rifle Ammo and a Gauss Rifle. It was at a former starleague presence planet. Andmax or something like that. I was lead to believe to search the combo manufacturing, rich, and research. Didn't find any there.
