The second video for this game states that Battletech is part of the Mechwarrior Universe.

...

SINCE WHEN?!!

Could one of you (other) old timers chime in and let me know just exactly when this heinous travesty of everything sensible occurred?? I missed a memo somewhere. In the old days, the two game systems were flat incompatible, and would rather blow each other to kingdom come than even TRY to be compatible. WTH is going on here??

It has nothing to to with game systems, the lore behind is the same. Mechwarrior ist part of the Battletech Universe, this is right. Battletech is an old board game with special lore and stories. Inspired by this started some good old games and old Mechwarrior, and then the new Mechwarrior and Battletech, too. Jordan Weissman, one of the Founders of Fasa and leading head behind the board game is at HBS now and was behind the actual Battletech game, too.

Um.. Battletech started off as an arena battle system. It used different mechanics than Mechwarrior and the two were utterly incompatible with each other for decades.
Also, they are both HUGE franchises. I don't care which developer went where, one franchise can't just absorb the other without some sort of official say so, along with a rundown of how they intend to make the incompatibilities be compatible. That was always the biggest roadblock. The two camps stopped being toxic towards each other decades ago as well.

You probably mean Macross ... can you give me a reference where a Mechwarrior Boardgame existed, that has nothing to to with Battletech. The original Mechwarrior was a Pen and Paper RPG from Fasa, the same company as the Battleetech boardgame, which evolved from Battledroids. Played those games since start of 90s and both use the lore from the Battletech universe.

There was a problem with the company behind the Macross univrse. There was a licence to use their art for the mechs in Battletech, but it was ... hmmm ... problematic, so some of the mechs were removed.
All the following mechwarrior and battletech computer games are placed in the Battletech universe. Own all of the old boxed games, though not the newer Mechwarrior anymore.

Always.

You are confused.

Battletech is the universe
Battle mechs are of course the mechs
Mechwarriors are the pilots.

Always same universe

More like MW is part of the BT universe. BT was started as a tabletop with minatures and then went on to books, cartoons, video games and other media. One of those games series was mechwarrior, the title of a mech pilot within the BT universe.

I'm from the original days of Battletech. Played it as a boardgame as a kid with my m8s for many fun hours. Learned my maths with that game which school couldn't teach me! A lot of things in this game that some call 'Lore' is not, but Mechwarrior is indeed Lore..

Mechwarrior originally arrived as a ROLEPLAY supplement to Battletech so the player could get more depth out of his pilots, cos he used to be just two stat points of injury and skill. Mechwarrior simply expanded on the Battletech world. I remember how excited we all were to start learning this new add-on to the game when one of us bought the thick manual!

So yea, it's been part of it since like the late 1980s!

Well thank you everybody, I honestly don't know HOW it happened, but where I grew up, you either loved Arena combat in Battletech, or you loved the fluffy nonsense in Mechwarrior. There was a virtual wall between the two camps as solid as any rock wall you can slap. I was honestly under the impression that the two sets of mechs had different naming schemes and statistics. I never actually compared the two.

It's actually a pretty stunning revelation, really. All these years I thought they were two separate universes. Amazing.

I'm confused here. I thought MechWarrior was what they called a series of computer games set in the Battletech universe. Said games featured you as a pilot of war machines called Batlte Mechs and in-universe the pilots were Mechwarriors.
