No matter what i have tried, i can't get the unit to move.

I get the info, full map, assault or end movement phase for options.

any ideas?

If this is the first turn while playing on the right-hand screen, it starts off as your "Action Mode" turn - there's admittedly not much to do for the first turn here. After ending your turn it'll switch to "Move Mode", which will replace the Assault button with Move.

That is right, one Player is able to move and the other is able to attack (or build maybe). In the next round this changes.
If you say, you have the possibility to make an assault, than this is a strong hint for the action phase (because you can't attack in the movement phase).

And I bet you choose the French Army. ;o)
