Crashes on save are less frequent. But if the game crashes on save, it seems to keep crashing on load every time you relaunch the game again. I've tried to load not only the same game, but other saved games as well, up to 7 times in a row with a resulting crash every time.

But once it's been left alone for a while, loading any game works fine again. Looking at the Event Log or whatever it's called in english, the most common culprit seems to be wdmaud.drv, with the occasional appearance of glide2x.dll. I don't understand why it would make any difference by waiting while doing other stuff before trying again, but it certainly seems to be the case. And do note that this does not involve rebooting, just commong usage.

Incubation is running under Windows 8 on a GeForce GTX 670M, with driver version 9.18.13.2049 (320.49-notebook-win8-win7-64bit-international-whql).

Thankful for any suggestions

Please send all that information along with your DxDiag to our Support department, please. We'll do what we can to see if we can't get this solved for you. Thanks :D
Done. Thank you for the prompt answer.
Experiencing the same problem, the game crashes when I load the game which was saved on the main map of the city (loading in-missions works fine though). SImilar configuration as the user who started this thread.

Same for me.
Same here, the Wilderness Missions started crashing under Windows 7 x64.

The game crashes when I load a save made on the "city map", whereas savegames made during missions are loaded just fine.

Every error report in the Event Log identifies "wdmaud.drv" driver as the problem source.

HOW TO SOLVE: So far, I've found a crude, yet effective solution for the city map crash.

The bug seems to be 99% connected to Incubation's infamous problems with its music playback. Whenever the game attempts to play the "City theme" while freshly restarted, it crashes. Sadly any attempts to disable music via the ingame options just don't seem to work (sound settings are reverted back to default each time the game is re-started).

I've managed to somewhat bypass this bug by renaming the game's "music" folder to i.e. "Xmusic" therefore breaking the filepath to the soundtrack.

Naturally, now the in-game soundtrack is fully disabled but at least the program itself works like a charm. Any "normal" sounds, like gunfire or level briefiengs are still there, and the background music themes can still be played in i.e. Winamp.

Fortunately, unlike the vanilla game, The Wilderness Missions addon doesn't seem to include any animated cutscenes so it largely doesn't matter whether the audio tracks are played separately or in-game.

Your fix does work, I don't understand why you didn't just rename Track05.ogg to say XTrack05.ogg, though, since you knew that it's related only to the city theme. I just did that and now the game doesn't crash on me AND I have all music and dialogue excluding the mission select screen. Not having any ambience on this one screen is hardly a big problem.
Very helpful post! I bought the gog version last year and gave up trying to play wilderness.
Thought I would have another crack at getting it to work. So glad I did.

Thank you!

Same here...Thanx. Was crashing when trying to load a saved game. Renamed Track05.ogg to Track05.oldogg and now it's loading.
For anyone having problems running it on windows 7:

I set compatibility to win xp (SP3)

Run Settings.exe (in the game directory) and switched to 3DFX.

And also renamed music\Track05.ogg to music\xtrack05.ogg

It seems stable now. I get all the sound/music in cutscenes too (except the mission
select screen)

It worked for me as well. Thank you.
