I made a Windows port for Battle Isle 2, which enables you to play Battle Isle 2 + Titan's Legacy and all user maps natively under Windows (no DOSBox required) with high resolution (well the terrain and unit sprites are still the same but you can zoom them), MP3/OGG background music, multiplayer mode via internet, fast and smart AI, and many more features.

You can download the Windows port here:
www.kitana.org/bi2020

The port only replaces the EXE file. To play the game, you'll still need to own the original game (either the GOG version or the CD version).

The game is about to be finished, but need some beta testers. I would be pleased to receive some feedback.

I tried to install this but it won't work on my setup. I have a copy of the GOG Galaxy version but I do not have a "Battle Isle 2\ISLE2\ARTWORK" folder. This is the directory tree that I have for my version:

The artworks package is an extra download from GOG. You can find it in your games collection when you select "Battle Isle 2". See attached screenshot.

Not a lot of help, me thinks :(
I've spent so much time in implementing game logic, that I forgot to care about my own installer (when you run bi2020.exe for the first time, it extracts the original maps and data file from the GOG image). It seems, some required files are no longer extracted. Will check and fix this as soon as possible.
Thank you :-)

I will try and do some testing but it will probably only be on the weekends as I have to work.

Cheers

Geoff
Should be fixed now. I've uploaded a new ZIP file to www.kitana.org/bi2020
I didn't change the version number because only the internal installer has changed.

I downloaded the new version and have run a quick test and it appears to be working OK.

Unfortunately, I cannot do much more than that at the moment, I will try do some more testing on the weekend.

Thanks

Geoff
I have done some testing but there are a couple of things you need to know. I never play any games with sound turned on unless they are simulators and I need to hear someone shooting at me or similar. Bearing that in mind, I haven't listened to the in game music or sound effects. I also only tried playing the standard first campaign map.

I've also only done a little testing but I find the following:
1 - Can you put a hint on the buttons when you run the mouse over then, please? It makes it easier to work out what the buttons do.

2 - In the original games, if you right-click on a location, then the map shifts. This doesn't work in your version and I have to use the mouse button to scroll out. The map gets a little small to see what is happening.

3 - Can you put a "Are you sure" on the quit? I accidentally keep exiting the game when I'm looking at the settings instead of returning to the game.

4 - When I start the game, I get error messages saying "Failed to load artwork" for various BMP files. These are Vision, Quasar, UX and U_H_U. Does not appear to effect game play as far as I got with testing.

5 - When I got to the end of the first mission, I could not work out how to finish so I can get to the second mission.

Something I noticed and like, the AI is a lot more intelligent than the original game, thank you :-)
Thanks for your feedback!

1 - Will check how to integrate some tooltips.

2 - Use the mousewheel to zoom the map. And if I don't forget, I'll add logic that scrolls the map when you click on the minimap.

3 - Will think about this.

4 - The U-H-U bitmap is missing in the GOG version. It's included in the CD version. The other missing bitmaps are from the "Titan's Legacy" units. Sadly, BlueByte didn't make artworks for them. I guess BI2020 will not show a picture for those units unless a skilled artist wants to draw some.

5 - You're talking about the "Victory" screen? Maybe I should add a text somewhere on that screen that reads "Press ESCAPE to continue".
I've uploaded version 1.01 of Battle Isle 2020 which fixes some bugs and adds many features requested by the community:

Thanks for making this. In Windows 7 it works well. However it won't run on Windows XP despite what the description says. (Win7 Dependencies advapi32:RegGetValueA / D2D1.dll / DWRITE.dll )

Thank you so much for this, I wish I had looked for it sooner, I'd given up hope of playing these on my win11 laptop - great work! I'll play properly when I've finished going through Incubation again :)
