Hey everyone.

I’m playing the wilderness mission campaign and I have a doubt about how the commendations works in these games (and those extra points for my marines could be very useful right now!)

Manual says “Commendations are awarded based on mission performance” but nothing more specific.
I'm not sure if I have to fulfil certain conditions or if they always awarded in certain missions.

I’ve made some experiments, like try to finish a mission with the least number of marines or finish the mission as quick as possible (or at least as fast as I can) but I didn’t received any.

So, anyone know how they works?

Thanks in advance.

I waited a wee bit as i am not sure. But as no one else answered......

IIRC it has more to do with the number of kills AND the mission. Not enough kills, no commendations. Hence in some games you have those unlimited outlet things which you use to get the commendations, but again just out of my memory ;)

Hey, thanks for the reply!

Right now I’m in a mission with infinite enemy spawn (those nasty Dec’Ther and Tea’Ther),
I’ll try to camp near the exit and kill everything I can while I have ammo to check if I receive any commendation.

If doesn’t work now I’ll keep trying in further missions, I’ll try to post my findings.

No problem, but don't nail me ;)

Ammo:
You have a ammo-less weapon IIRC, the knife or something like that!!! (But again IIRC ;) )

Some weapons have bayonets for close combat, if that's what you mean. Also... I could be wrong, but the laser cannon might be ammo-less?

Yes QuadrAlien, both laser weapons don’t need ammo.

I know about the bayonets but their use in The Wilderness missions (what I’m playing now) is more limited than in the original campaign (you can’t get close to the spawn points and kill without resistance due the change on how the enemies spawn in the expansion, also they aren’t very effective against the enemies I’m facing)

At this point my squad is mainly equipped with heavy weapons but I think I did a mistake and a few commendations could help me to fix it.
How many commendations you receive for winning a mission depends on what is coded in the appropriate lcl-mission-file which needs to be decoded to be readable.

The command "SetGameControl (11,1);" gives you 1 commendation.

Most missions never give you a commendation.

Certain missions always give you 1 commendation.

Only one mission always gives you 2 commendations (Escort Dr. Reich).

There is only one mission which has a condition for receiving a commendation (In Front of the Fort).

You will never get a bonus commendation for having a certain kill count or finishing a mission quickly.

original campaign > 9-10 commendations

lcl-level file / level name / commendations and conditions
104 / Mission 4: The Portal / 1
106 / Mission 6: Find Dr. Reich / 1
107 / Mission 7: Escort Dr. Reich / 2
112 / Mission 10: In Front of the Fort / 1, if no marine lost
114 / Mission 12: The Hole / 1
118 / Mission 16: The Nest / 1
120 / Mission 18a: Defend Path A / 1
126 / Mission 22: Residential Area #1 / 1
130 / Mission 26: Halls #2 / 1

wilderness campaign > 4 commendations

lcl-level file / level name / commendations and conditions
151 / Mission 10: The Tr'Yns / 1
167 / Mission 22: Into the Green / 1
171 / Mission 25a: Steele / 1
172 / Mission 25b: Steele / 1
176 / Mission 29: Chainsaw / 1
