From page 21 of the Battle Isle 1 manual : "The weapons handbook contains a picture and description of each unit."

I can't find any such handbook for BI1 , except for the extension "The moon". Is it something Blue Bytes wrote in but never included?

Looks like there wasn't a file for this document when the Battle Isle Platinum set was first put together, so presumably it didn't turn up for the GOG version either.

Yeah, I considered that, too. However, I am not sure whether this is legal.

And, I have the german version of the book. Still, designations seem the same as in the english version.

Replacement Docs is debatable, but gog is most propably legal (they will tell you if they are not allowed to use this asset) :)

It would be nice if a gog representative could say whether this is legal and if they want me to do this.

Well, than put it at least anonymously at replacement docs (http://www.replacementdocs.com)... future generations will appreciate your effort. :)

PS: also the library of congress archives video games and documents legally (!), maybe such scans should be forwarded to such archives and libraries too
