All the Battle Isle games work perfectly for me, except no. 3: as soon as it starts it crashes with two 'major errors', detailing a 'severe error' with files in C:\WINCD (a folder which does not exist)- anyone know how to fix this? This is on W7/64.
I experience the same on W8/64. Any solution?
Hi,

I SOLVED this issue. The problem was caused by the total length of the directories under which the subdirectory "Battle Isle Platinum" was installed.

"C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Games\" didn't work (and produced the error referring to C:\DATA\WINCD), but
"C:\Program FIles (x86)\GOG G\" does work (for me).

Note that it is the total length of directory names that counts.

For instance:
"C:\Program Files (x86) GOG Games\" doesn't work, whereas
"C:\Program Files (x86) GOG G\" does work.

Since C:\Program FIles (x86)\ is the usual location for 32 bit applications on 64 bit systems, it looked like a 64 bit issue. Well, it isn't .

Hopefully this also helps others.

You should never install games (especially older games) in program files folder in Windows Vista/7/8/8.1 in the first place. Use C:\games, C:\GOG or something instead. Saves you from lot of headaches and hair lose later.

YES, this worked. I already had it installed on another drive, D:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Games\, but reinstalling to D:\GOG Games\ fixed the problem, thanks!
Cool!

I was just about to post this problem, see if anyone knew what it was. I've had it for over a year! Just now I started to investigate it futher since I have some time to do so.

So I got the same error, and I just now re-installed it to a shorter directory. And now Battle Isle 3 works! I never would have thought of doing that. I know some other games that have trouble with long directories, but never would I have thought of re-installing the Battle Isle games to a shorter one.

Thanks for posting the solution! :)
