Hi folks. I'm just getting into chess, in the sense that I understand the rules and am looking to practice. I like the idea of this games, but don't want to play it if I'm just going to get obliterated every time - does it have a "very easy" mode for beginners? If not, would another chess game be more suitable?
Thanks,
Rich

Battle Chess is played against the computer, and there are many different skill levels to choose from. So yes, there's something for the rookie here in terms of difficulty.
However, the chess AI itself is not that good in this game. A mediocre player can beat even the hardest difficulty setting 90% of the time.
If you're looking to really learn chess from the ground up from a game, I would recommend getting the newly released Chessmaster 9000 (http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/chessmaster_9000) instead, as it as an excellent tutorial mode and a vastly better AI than Battle Chess.
