When I launch BChess 4000 a couple things happen in DOSBox:
The palette seems screwed on up on the chess board.
The mouse cursor moves ridiculously slow (this could be a DOSBox issue - but I don't have this problem with the other battle chess games or other games in DOSBox).
I can correct the graphical issues if I switch back and forth between fullscreen and windowed mode. However I'd like a more permanent solution and it does not solve the issue of the mouse cursor.
Has anyone else experienced either of these issues and has anyone found a way around them?

I don't know about the mouse cursor, but I had graphical issues as well. I don't think that DOSBOX has the best VESA support, what I did was go to here and download sdd53a-d.zip and unzip and install it (using dosbox) to a directory (can be anywhere, I choose to put it a subdirectory in the dosbox directory). You are supposed to run register.exe and put the code in that is in that ftp directory, but I never got that to work, and it doesn't seem to affect anything. Run UVCONFIG.exe from the directory you installed the program to in dosbox. Finally, I added the lines:
mount d c:/progra~1/dosbox-0.72/sdd53a (replace with wherever you installed it)
d:
univbe
to the end of the dosboxBC4k.conf file, before the mount C . line. This is a generic VESA driver that improves DOSBOXs vesa performance.

I didn't know that scitech even still gave out display doctor anymore. Regardless, it didn't work. After running the driver the screen was stretched such that only 1/2 of it was visible. This was the case in both fullscreen and windowed modes. For now I'm just going to have to force it to windowed mode in the config since in windowed mode the mouse and graphics work correctly.
Thanks for the response.
I didn't see any issues myself, but did you try changing the graphic mode? If you go through the Start Menu to Battle Chess 4000, you'll find a "Graphic Mode Setup" application. It will allow you to switch between the different graphic modes that DosBox allows. I know I had to do this with one of the other DOS games.
