Tested this version on Max OSX 10.7 with wine 1.5.22.
Installer works, but hangs at the end.
Game starts when running bos.exe.
However starting a table will make the app hang, so not really working.

Not exactly Wine but I would like to report another virtualization effort:

tested on Win7 32bit on Parallels 8.0 hosted by OSX 10.8.3

Game installs, loads and looks and sounds fine..

Except for the flippers that respond too late, so result is unplayable.

Win XP SP3 compatibility and full screen (non scrolling) modes don't help.

Update:

-the above setup doesn't like the shift keys for flippers but assigning other keys will make it work

-Parallels 8 does the job on OSX (Macbook with 9600M GT gives ok performance with max settings)

Just tested with wine 1.5.27 on OSX. It now actually loads the table and you can play it.
It's only very slow, but I'll try some settings.

I launch it with bos.exe
Installation now also finishes succesfully, but launching with launcher.exe makes the game hang on the intro image and it won't respond to mouseclicks or keys.

Maybe if you are on linux it's faster.

Hi, you can use Playonmac, there is already a script that seems to make the game works fine, since the installation to the gameplay.

That would be great, however I just tried it and it won't load the tables at all, giving directdraw error.

Are you using the default setup or you change to your personal wine installation? Did you tried to select the game, going to Config > Install an app > directx9 ?

I used the default setup of the playonmac program and installed the game using the beta install option of playonmac. Should I have installed directx also? Will try that then.

I made that script under Linux, so it wasn't necessary the installation of Dx9, but in your case, the problem about Directdraw, well thats the 2D API of Dx. So, you can also try different options under the config of that game, like changing the way directdraw is handle, try with opengl or with gdi.
And also try to install Directx9, but not manually, just use the options under the config screen of POM.

Ok, I installed directx9, it now loads ok, but is still too slow. A bit faster then normal system wine.
CPU usage is around 30%, so it's not the cpu thats too taxed. Also needed to enable virtual desktop instead of fullscreen in winecfg, otherwise it didn't show up, but only the sound.

Still not really usefull on OSX.

Well, did you change the output renderer for 3D and 2D?

Did you change the game speed with + and - keys?
