I did not know that Apogee/3D Realms/Pinball Wizards (whoever) replaced one table with the Duke Nukem table! On the 3DRealms website you find the following informations about a table named "Devil's Island": The table itself looks really funny. There is a link on a website (Wildfire Studios), but the download link is down. I think, the table is freeware but I'm not sure. So I decided to look for more download links but I could not found anything.

Has someone more informations about it? Was the table really available as freeware? Can the table be included into the Balls of Steel package?

Could GoG provid or sell Devil's Island in Balls of Steel package of separately ?

This seems possible as Expert Software had released this via CDROM at one point. Was a darn good game I actually owned a copy of it when RealArcade was around but they decided to go out of business and those games everyone purchased was lost and they never gave a you know what about it. A flaky business model they had sigh.

I still have a RealOne Arcade Devil's Island Pinball Demo file (devilsislandpinball.exe, 24985816 bytes). It installs the RealOne Aracade software and then allows you to play Devil's Island Pinball for a total of one hour. Supported operating systems are Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT 4, Windows 2000 and Windows XP. It looks like the complete version for single player play, but you don't have multiplayer. The version is 1.2RN.

The Expert Software CD-ROM version of Devil's Island Pinball installs Version 1.00, and there is a Version 1.1 update (devils_110.exe, 376289 bytes) which can be applied to both the CD-ROM version and Wildfire's download version. After applying the patch, the main menu still shows Version 1.0, but the game screen shows Version 1.1 when you begin to play a the table. Supported Resolutions are 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024 and 1600x1200 for 4MB or higher display cards. Cards with less memory have more limited options. Table view has three options: Auto, Scrolling and Single screen.

the game was never an add on it was an cut table wildfire did for apogee but was dropped when the go ahead for an duke nukem was approved wildfire decided to just publish the game on there own after bos came out through expert then real networks. if gog got it it would be published as an separate title since it was not published by apogee's pinball wizards label.

For those of you that have found Devil's Island (it's supposed to be abandonware, anyway) and want to try it on Windows 7 or later I suppose, but get garbled graphics; you CAN use GOG's BOS launcher to get it running with no graphics issues!

What you have to do is simply copy launcher.exe + bosloader.dll inside the Devil's Island folder, and rename devils.exe to bos.exe! Now run launcher.exe and two windows will open, an empty launcher window and devil's island menu. Proceed normally from the devil's island menu and voila! ;)

What about "Balls of Steel Creature Attack!"?

If you have Problems with old Windows-Games that use DirectDraw and show Graphics with a faulty Palette etc, you can activate the Task-Manager and kill the "explorer.exe"-Process. That doees it for all Games I've tried it with: Balls of Steel, Kiss Pinball, Devil's Island Pinball, Outlaws, Diablo 1 and more...

You can reactivate the explorer.exe in the Task-Manager again by adding it as Task (c:\Windows:\explorer.exe) after the Game.Session.
You must kill the Process when the Game is started or a Window to start it has opened, Cause you won't have Windows to open Directories with anymore....

You can use a Batch-File to do all the Stuff automatically

taskkill /F /IM explorer.exe
bos.exe
start explorer.exe
exit

On the Balls of Steel-Version here on Gog, I had to use the 256 Colors-Compatibility on bos.exe, too. After that everything worked fine!
