powerhouse5000: On further inspection of my main character in particular, I came to realize a few of his proficiencies were taken in poor taste, namely the one point in War hammer and two in Sword and Shield Style. The latter only seemed to be worthwhile for Chapter 3, and that's it. I'm tempted to try EE Keeper to fix that but am having trouble making that work. =/

Bookwyrm627: EE might let you have a bow on swap without having to manually remove the off-hand weapon each time; I don't know.

amazingchestahead: Open your save with EEKeeper, navigate to Proficiencies tab, use the +/- buttons at the bottom to change proficiency level, then save.

dtgreene: Maybe I'll chime in here.

First, I don't like the weapon proficiency system in this game. There's various reasons, but the ones most relevant to the thread is that you don't know what weapons you'll need to use in this game ahead of time and you can't easily learn a new weapon type later.

Now, the penalties for using a weapon you're not proficient in are as follows:
* An attack penalty based on your class. For fighter-type classes, the penalty is only -2, so you're 10% less likely to hit than if you were proficient in the weapon type. (The penalty is more severe than for other classes.)
* Fighters get extra attacks at higher levels, but you lose then if you're using a weapon type you're not proficient in.

These penalties do hurt (though -2 isn't *that* bad), but are not prohibitive, so you can still use a weapon you *are* proficient in to get past this part. If the game is giving you trouble, you could try using magic to increase your accuracy (or to do some damage), or if that doesn't help, you could resort to lowering the difficulty (I hear it's *very* hard to die on Story difficulty). Or, of course, you could just edit your save as has been discussed. (I would justify a save edit due to the hostile design of the game's weapon proficiency system, where you have to make permanent choices blind.)

ussnorway: step 1 = open keeper as admin
step 2 = open settings \ install
step 3 = point to a copy of the game files, Steam, Beamdog or Gog & also point to your save game folder which defaults to documents

step 4 = restart keeper and press the open save folder icon [see images 1-4]

powerhouse5000: Okay, but I can't tell what to place as the Game Profile and Installation Directory. For clarification, this is on a Windows 8 PC and I purchased the game from this website. Remember, like I said, I'm not the most technologically proficient. =/

ussnorway: your game profile should be called Bob or perhaps powerhouse5000... its just if you have more than 1 game i.e, Steam + Beamdog then you would call them 'steam' and 'Beamdog' so you know which is which and can try different mods

with only one copy of the game it doesn't matter what you call the profile

game install directory has two options;
1 = assuming Galaxy then open settings
2 = find the game install path to see where all Galaxy games will be
3 = when you open keeper tell it to look for the BG1 or BG2 EE folder and then press ok

option for non Galaxy users
4 = find the game exe & right click it then select location... thats the folder you need to point keeper at

Windows 8 8.1 & 10 all use documents as the default profile location for games... Windows 7, Vista and XP use the old my documents system
