I'm in the underdark city Ust Natha, and have run into what seems to be a bug.

I have met Phaere and her mother in the temple, and given them the blood they require. Phaere requests me to meet her in her house. I go there and talk to her, but the conversation seems to break off in the middle, no matter what dialogue option I choose, meaning the quest to scheme with her isn't triggered. The rest of the Ust Natha plot line is thus broken.

I followed the instructions in the "Baldur's Gate 2 essential mods" thread when I installed the game. I did all the steps except optional #12 (user created material). I used the tweak pack in step 14.

Everything has been running good up till this point.

Something has broken the dialog flow. I would normally say some other mod, but since you say you don't have any I can only guess that your installation is broken.

By the way, the load order in that post is wrong. You should install BGT before anything, even fixes and patches.
What do you think could have caused this broken dialogue? Could there be a way of fixing this without reinstalling the game?

In the absence of mods that change dialogs, you're probably looking at rogue, corrupt dialog files. If that is the case, as seems likely, the only solution is to reinstall. Of course, this problem could also be due to the fact that you didn't install BGT correctly. BGT must be installed from a completely virgin copy of both games, sans fixes, patches etc.
You can usually fix broken dialogue with the help of Near Infinity and using the console, or even having to use AI scripts to trigger things.

But if you have installed BGT incorrectly it's better to reinstall, since more problems are bound to turn up.

The only patch or fix I installed before BGT is the Baldur's Gate II Fixpack. Are you saying I should install this after BGT instead? I read through that thread, and noticed that even you said to install this fixpack before BGT. Did you change your mind? How come? And does anyone else agree with this?

My mistake. It is ok to install the BG2 fixpack, Turnabout and Ascension before BGT, otherwise as I said, nothing else.

Thanks for the clarification. Puzzling, however, what could have caused the bug if I followed the steps correctly. Perhaps something I selected in the tweak pack.

Perhaps. The thing is, your game, or dialog tree, is corrupt and needs replacing. That means re-installation.
