Hello everyone!

Do you think BG2 deserves a T rating? I specifically refer to #2 because I can't find the rating for #1. I looked at box art but it isn't there and I checked Amazon - one person is selling it as an E rated game and another is selling it as a T rated game.

You have to admit, the series has some pretty heavy content. The games have child killers: the spiders that lead to the Irenicus reference, the quest where you have to bring a dead boy from the ankheg nest, Neb, the Church of Umberlee, the Talonites conspiring to murder a 12 year old girl, and the dwarf in the Copper Coronet.

Both games refer to drugs and prostitution. And there are a few references to rape as well. To top all that off there is also relentless violence.

So, why did the game(s) get a T rating? Manhunt 2 doesn't have half of these things and that game is rated Adults Only. Hey, it's even banned in several countries! The only thing I can think of is that the games makes you use your imagination because the animation in the game is pretty limited.

It's all about presentation - Manhunt is very graphic and puts you into a role of a murderous sociopath, whereas Baldur's Gate merely mentions these themes and never even has you killing children or displays an act of killing children. Actually, now that I think about it, if a plot to kill a child would be enough to get a bad rating, pretty much all fairy tales would be adult only.

As would many religious texts for that matter (including the Bible, as it turns out).

Well... there is a reason behind Walt Disney love to "modify" the olds tales :P
But, those etiquettes in video-games suffered from the same problem than Hollywood. Are discretionary and in the early years not alway had enough classification (By example Indiana Johns and Gremlins forced to update the gringo's classification).
