when i try to open the application it saids " the appication was unable to start correcely (0xc0000022) click ok to close appication. waht am i supposed to do ?

First, make sure that the game is not installed to Program Files. Next, if you've done that and the game still will not start, it may be your antivirus preventing it. Disable your antivirus while playing.

Hello i was encountering the same error i fixed by solving some permissions issues.

First search for ProcessMonitor from Microsoft.

Then run the processmonitor program and run the game seek where the game gives the error and then give permission to your user to full acess to that file.

In my case was access to file dplayx.dll

Then run the processmonitor program and run the game seek where the game gives the error and then give permission to your user to full acess to that file.

In my case was access to file dplayx.dll
You do not need Process Explorer to give permissions. You can do that by setting the program to run as Administrator, provided you already have administrative permissions. If you don't, you shouldn't be messing with PE.

In my case running as a Adminstrator was not enough since only TrustedInstaller had permissions on that folder.

I've just downloaded BG2, and am getting the exact same error when attempting to run the game.
Windows 8.1 is my OS, if that helps.

That strongly suggests that you have the game installed inside the protected Program Files folder structure, which games should NEVER be installed to.

My game is not installed inside the protected program files folder, I've got them in the default separate GOG Games folder.
I've tried running as administrator, and done a compatibility troubleshoot to no avail.
When I initially try to launch the game does ask if I want to install DirectPlay, I was under the impression that this was only necessary if I was planning on playing multiplayer.
From everything I've read, the lack of DirectPlay shouldn't be causing the inability to run BG 2.

I also have no trouble running Planescape: Torment, which is an Infinity Engine game.

olnorton: A couple of others have had to install Direct Play when using Win 8.1.
Is Direct Play safe to install, I was weary, as Microsoft clearly decided not to preinstall this program, or auto install when needed?

In theory that's true. The DirectPlay network API should not prevent the game from launching -- it doesn't in Window Vista or Windows 7 -- but I have no experience of Windows 8, and as already stated, some Win8 users find that installing it solves their problem.

Is there a fix for this yet?

Ed: Fixed, i don't why but in windows 8, the direct play is disabled. You can enbale it through "add or remove programs"

I have window 8.1 and none of the infinity engine games could run (bg 1 and 2, Icewindale 1 and 2, Torment) . Prior to activating direct play I had this 0xc0000022 error.
