If I imported a character from BG 1 to BG 2 but wanted to change to Monk or other class at the start of BG2 (BG1 has no Monk class), would all of my previous gained levels from BG1 change to Monk or would I be stuck with the levels from whatever classes my character was in BG1? I'd rather switch over and play a straight up Monk and not have multiple/dual classes in BG2, but without modding BG1 & 2.
I know it's an odd question, but i've searched and can't find an answer anywhere. Thanks in advance.

You can't pick a different class at the start of BG2, only a different kit.

You could use a save game editor to change your character's class, then edit their level down to 1, while leaving their experience. Then you could load the game and level them up manually.

Darn, that's what I thought. Well, at least I can plan out a different character build. I'll mark this as "solved".
One more question, is it possible to reach BG2 & SoA's level cap with a new character playing through just BG2 & SoA?

SoA is BG2, ToB is the expansion. Before I beat SoA, I had surpassed the original SoA cap. Haven't really played ToB yet.
