Hi

I recently bought BGEE on Steam and have a question about dual classing. I started out with a thief, who I dual classed into a fighter early on. The point is I only level up now in the Thief class, which means that I'm currently have a lvl7 thief and lvl 2 fighter - with pretty good thieving abilities - but they are disabled! I have read that it is something about I will not regain my thieving abilities until my second class is one lvl higher than my first class - but there's no place where I can choose what class I level up in. What should I do?

Hope someone can help me. Thanks in advance.

I suggest reporting this to Beamdog as a bug. Once you dual-class, you are not supposed to be able to advance in your former class.

No, that's not a bug. You appear to be confused about dual classing. Correct me if I'm wrong, but your thief was level 7 when you dual classed, meaning when you level up, your fighter gains skills. Your thieving abilities will be disabled until your fighter class gets to level 8, that's one level above the thief class, at which time you will regain your thieving abilities. This is all normal.

If the above is not happening, and indeed you are able to assign new thieving skills at each level up, then that would be a bug, and a very serious one. Please clarify which is the case.

Hi

It must be a bug. I dual classed as soon as I could. If I remember correctly it was when I advanced to a lvl 2.

Thanks guys. I'll take it to Beamdog.
Hickory is right. In 2nd edition D&D (on which bg is based) you can't choose the class you level up in. You only level up in your 2nd class.
This was changed in 3rd edition. Icewind Dale II is the only infinity engine game in which this is possible

In your case, you should have acces to your thieving skill if that's the class you dualed to and is highter than your first class.
You aren't wearing any armor heavier than leather aren't you? (mail, plate) Because if you do, you can't use thieving skills.

kmeinert writes that the character only levels up in his/her first class. That is clearly a bug. As you wrote, the character should only level up in his/her second class.
