I own both, well except I haven't done any modding for the original game yet, and I was wondering which one would be more enjoyable to play and why. I missed out on a lot of great CRPGs and I'm looking to give both Baldur's gate 1 and 2 a go.
This recent thread may answer some of your questions:

If want an experience as close as possible to the original games as they were released, then the Enhanced Editions are a good way to go. Personally, I question their value (I think they're too expensive), but since you already have them, you're good to go.

If you really want to dive into the world of mods and tweaks for BG1+2, then you're probably best off installing the original versions as found here on GOG. From what I understand (and this may be outdated info) the majority of mods still don't work on the Enhanced Editions.

This is about as far from the truth as it's possible to get. The Enhanced Editions are so far removed from the original games that they bear very little resemblance, if you know the games at all. Even TuTu/BGT (which completely take away the original BG1 experience) are nearer than the Enhanced renditions.

Huh. OK. So a practically mod-less version of the game made to run on modern OS's is "so far removed from the original games that they bear very little resemblance?" What am I missing here? I admit that I don't own BG:EE, but from what I know of it your take is hyperbole to the extreme.

You are very uninformed, then, aren't you? A mod-less version? The EE versions are massive mods and platform conversions, nothing more. To make the above statement when you don't even own the game says it all.

I guess I am uninformed.

So tell me again how the EE versions are less like the real thing than a tricked out version of BG1+2 w/ Sword Coast Strategems, 20 NPC mods, etc, etc.

That is not what you said. Here is what you said:
"If want an experience as close as possible to the original games as they were released"
(sic)

Original + mods 'as close as possible to the original' would be the original with fix packs.
