This has been long overdue in my play-throughs. Today I remedied that... finally.

Reap what you sow, Saemon Havarian!

Nice! I could never bring myself to do that, though. He's just too likable for me to actually kill.
hmm pity that wouldn't screw BG2 up, iirc you need him later in the second game.

dammit I dont wanna restart BG, but im so tempted.

The only thing it screws up (well not screws up, but terminates) is the side quest to go to the Sahaugin underwater city. I just chose to go through the portal. Saemon is one of those characters that, even if you kill him, the developers bring him back anyway. For instance, in ToB he's mysteriously there, even if he dies in SoA. I guess if a party member can be raised, why not an NPC?

I was wondering if he'd come back for that, or if they'd just use Biff the Understudy. As for the Shark City, I usually go there just to pick up the nifty Cloak-whose-name-I-can't-remember that blocks damage from most harmful spells.
The Sahuagin City has a LOT of nifty loot in it, from the Cloak of Reflection and Cloak +2 to Impaler and the Gauntlets of Crushing. As much as I hate Saemon, I usually don't pass up the opportunity for all of that. Oh, and the Wave Blade.

Thus, I usually wait to slaughter him until Amkethran.

That's the Cloak of Mirroring. The Cloak of Reflection is near the end of the Labyrinth beneath Spellhold. :-)
This thread made my day.
HAHA this is hilarious! I remember having the same satisfaction killing Saemon a little bit later during the scuffle with desharik. I ended up reloading the game though and letting him live so I could go to the Shaugin City. It just felt so good to know that I COULD kill him any time I wanted.
UPDATE:

Woohoo! I managed to do it on the ship in this playthrough, so I get to go to the Sahaugin city as well. Yes!

Haha - good idea to just attack him on the ship.

Side Q: I notice Skie in your party - is the Skie NPC mod any good? How does it hold up with the regular characters (banters etc fitting in with the overall tone?)

The Skie NPC mod is a fun mod. It has a romance option, but it doesn't take itself seriously, and what makes it even funnier (quirkier?) is that it is a Polish mod, and the translation to English doesn't always make sense -- the meaning is lost in the translation -- in a conversational way. But that makes it all the more amusing... sometimes. Don't take the banters or dialog too seriously, and it fits in well. At least it fits my purpose: I don't like any of the other thief options at all, that's why I have the Skie mod primarily.

Nice! I tried a couple reloads on my latest run through (just completed last night, actually), and I couldn't manage to kill him before he disappeared. I wasn't willing to reload too many times, so just moved on. Nice to see you waxed that treacherous bastard.
