Hi all. I have been running BG2 with absolutely no problems on my desktop, but I tried downloading it to my notebook and I'm having all sorts of problems:

Tiles aren't transparent (even though I have 32-bit and transparent shadows checked in the graphics option), so if I drop a quarterstaff on the ground there's a huge black box around it. And all sorts of problems occur during combat.

Also, the map doesn't appear to be remembering where I've been....I have to keep going back to places I've already been to get the area uncovered in the map.

I've tried all sorts of different graphic settings but nothing seems to help. Any help appreciated.

Specs: Core2 Duo 2.40, 4 GB, NVidia 8600M GT.

do you have 3d acceleration on in BG2 config (if disabled might cause the black box issue)?

the map issue is actually a new one (at least to me), one possibility i can think of is that you're running win7 or vista, have installed the game to program files and have UAC enabled, this might cause the game to fail in overwriting the map info so it doesn't register the changes in explored areas.

this is just guessing though and i hope someone else has more info on these issues since i can't be of more help, sorry.
Nevermind. Turns out I needed to update my video driver, now all is well.

Yeah, i should have tried that first....what a maroon!

Thanks for the help.
