I did not realize how fast 10 days passed! Of course, I think much of it was me running back and forth between Naskel mines and Naskel to sell off items in my bags, purchase upgrades, and head back in (not to mention, dropping Xan off at the Inn in Naskel so that I could go back into the MInes and pick up Imoen again, only to drop her off at the Inn and get Xan again). I was afraid of leaving PCs out in the wild, lest I forget where I left them (since they don't return to town or anything of the sort).

So here I am, and Minsc will join my party, and immediately try to kill us. We are all levels 2-3. I am not using any of the mods that some people talk about, as I've no idea where to start on the subject.

I did enable cheats in my baldur.ini file, and I removed Minsc from my party, then used CLUAConsole:CreateCreature("Minsc") to summon another copy of him, and "re-accept" his quest. I then asked the original Minsc to join me, and he DID! However, the game crashes when I try to leave the area...bah!

I'm wondering if anyone knows a way to reset his timer? I cleared the Gnoll Stronghold without him because he would have attacked us, but when I cleared it, Dynaheir wasn't where she was supposed to be. I'd like to re-load that area with Minsc in the party to see if she shows up...without him (or Boo) trying to murder us.

Ideas/advice appreciated. I know I'm only level 2-3, but I've been clearing every single bit of "fog" on each map, so I've got a lot of time invested so far, so I'd rather not re-roll.

Why not just accept that Minsc and Dynaheir were not meant to be your companions in this game? There are lots of other good companions, like Ajantis, Coran and Kivan.
Or if your protagonist is more on the evil side: Kagain, Shar-Teel and Viconia.

Then replay the game some time later, and this time make sure you get Minsc.
Maybe try making a backup save, killing him in Naskel, head to the Gnoll Stronghold and summon him there at Dynaheir.

Because I specifically wanted Minsc in my game, for numerous reasons. While he's not as strong as other PCs that can be picked up, his banter and quips throughout the game make some of the more boring parts bearable. I find him hilarious (and since I'm muscular and bald...I'm thinking of "borrowing" my 6 year old daughter's hamster and dressing up as Minsc for Halloween!).

Shar-teel is annoying as fark. She has been dyking up this game since it was released, with all of her predator-esque "if it bleeds, I'll kill it" and "blah blah blah I hate men and have a vagina with teeth blah blah blah". Really very annoying.

I play a Neutral-Good Ranger, and haven't yet met the others yet. As it stands, I want to get rid of Khalid and Jaheera (she's useless, except for heals, which Branwin does on top of being a badass inc ombat), and Khalid is just my third archer for nailing tough brutes before they can get into melee range.

So my options so far are few...PC, Xan, Branwin, Imoen, and hopefully Minsc/Dynaheir.

I'm going to try that right now, thanks! I didn't see her there the first time I cleared it...maybe I can just summon her.

samuraiken: Dynaheir wasn't where she was supposed to be.
Dynaheir is at the bottom of the pit... sometimes you can't see her until you get down there.

In normal vanilla game you can collect her and then go see the Ranger... he should see her in your group and be happy but I'm not sure if she dies because you have taken to long to get there?

Out if curiosity, could you send me your save? (my_nick-at-gog.com) I can mess a bit with variables and see what I can find.
That's it, if you still want Minsc in your party ;)

Well then, my simple tip is to start making archive saved games of your progress more often. Use a new save slot and do not write over them. Then you would only need go back to replay a small amount.

These games can have over 200 hours gameplay - are you really going to risk that much time investment on the auto-save / quick-save? (I sure hope not, because the auto-save alone can screw up lots of battles if you're not prepared, trust me!) Fortunately the game offers you about one billion save slots. :)
As ussnorway noted, Dynaheir can be tough to see sometimes unless you go right down into the pit. As far as I know, she should be there (I don't think there's a scenario where she dies). If she's not there, I think perhaps you've hit some kind of bug.

If you go and rescue her, then go back to Minsc, all should be well.

I just like messing with files :P
Hi, I know it's years after your question was asked but maybe it will help some other players. I don't like to read solutions/ walkthroughs while playing and like to play on my own path but this problem with Minsc looks so serious and unexpected to me that it brought me here to check if it's a bug or part of scenario. I play on BG:EE now after years of my absence in BG universe and since I ended up the game many times before it just happened recently for the very first time and it's not a bug at all. So, I give you a solution after a nervous impro I made recently that I see nobody did it or wrote it here exactly in that way.

I had six members of a team, so it was fullfilled and every last one of them I wanted to have so there was no way I can lose Minsc. Especially, since I had a good/neutral team, used to avoid Minsc in former games (wanted to get him now) and... killed usable good NPCs before for no reason. Dynaheir which is tied with Minsc was useless to me. And situation gone worst when I was in a location with basilisks and Korax the Ghoul and deadline was so unexpected and critical that I couldn't get out of location with losing Minsc, because every single journey out of location cost me so much time that Minsc automatically used to leave and attack my team. Of course, I enjoy to explore and clean up locations for days, so the Gnoll Stronghold wasn't my target in forthcoming days with a team and that's why the problem appeared. See below, how in this very critical moments I turned it into victory in actually easy way for BG veteran like me :)

1) Create a new saving slot (I highly recommend to do it generally and overwrite it on purpose; quick save should be for recent actions but normal slot for bigger parts of a trip);
2) Use your current location and send Minsc separately through the area alone. Let him meet some crreatures or enemies and let him die. I suggest to take off his swords, armor or else. Important is not to let him be torn apart by some Drizzt-like weapons so don't involve him in clash with Battle Horrors, and don't interfere with basilisks because you need Minsc in a team even though he's dead. Just plain wolves or xzarts (or tasloi that I had). Once he's gone (and is still in your team but now as deceased, so he's portrait is in black and white colors) deal with remaining oponents at the scene and take all Minsc's items with you. In BG:EE there's no need to take a body with you but in vanilla BG it was necessary, so be prepared for heavy cargo and full of items;
3) Go to the Gnoll Stronghold as soon as possible, even you have to deal with ambushes while going. If you reach new locations, just go on the edges to the another nearest location that makes gnolls closer and closer;
4) Just when you reach gnolls area there's a pendant bridge with two ogrillons as the guards. Kill them, and I found it many times that this specific place (when bridge ends) is very good for two important issues: a) you can rest here for hours, so deal with fatigue, convalescence and refreshing of your spells, b) you can separate with one of your figures and leave him/ her here which is rather a safe place. I know that not every of your partners will stay here, because some of them will leave and disappear but at least one of them is so tied with you that will stay and will wait for you here - Imoen. And since she's very common team member of many, you can separate her. Right now;
5) Go straight to the stronghold with no exploring, but just straight through the gate, stairs and turn the first right upstairs and reach the main courtyard of the fortress and go to the last big pit where Dynaheir is. Across the path from the bridge to the pit there will be dozens of gnolls, including Ellite or Veterans, but even in four members (five, incl. deceased Minsc) you can do it. There are as mass as weak. As you reach the last pit, take one of your members into it through the ancient style stairs. Now Dynaheir will be visible (she was covered by fog of war) and talk to her. She will be as upset after Minsc death (he's in team but dead, so she knows he's with you) as grateful for saving her, so you can ask her for joining your team. Now, you have Minsc quest completed and both allies in team;
6) Get back to the bridge just the same way as formerly, deal with some respawning gnolls and leave the location. Imoen (or someone else separated) will stay where you left him/ her before. Go to the nearest temple, so to Nashkel. Pay the monk for resurrecting Minsc and welcome warrior back in team;
7) Now, if you still want to kick out Dynaheir and take your old mate back to team you have to go to the area originally full of basiliks (east to the temple belonging to Beregost) and stay on the welcoming edge with all team except Dynaheir. Take off all her items and let her go to the basiliks now (and avoid enemies like tasloi, gnolls, master of basilisks and the other team). The better option is lower part of the location with sands, visible wind and remains of some dinosaurs. As Dynaheir reach the every kind of basilisk here she should be petrified sooner or later. As you know, it means she is automatically separated from the team. It's so important because since she's tied with Minsc you cannot kick out one of them without losing his or her partner (like Khalid and Jaheira). The option above gives you Minsc in team and Dynaheir out of team with no problems, including meeting her in the future. Minsc will say something like: "I will avenge you" and will focus on his own;
8) Now go with your fantastic five to the Gnoll Stronghold again. After reaching it join the NPC you separated before and your team is exactly the same as before Minsc's rage.

I hope it will help someone. A lot of text, but I crushed on Baldur's Gate 1 in 1999 and it's still a strong desire, so you will understand :)

That's a hell of a long-winded way to say, "if you want to resolve the problem with Minsc's timer, have him killed then go and rescue Dynaheir before reviving him." :/

Yeah, I got it. I wanted to say it wasn't so easy if you have completed team and you need to separate Minsc and Dynaheir without problems. And, thank you, I enjoy my enthusiasm because I love the game and talking about it ;P
