I decided to go back to BG after a bit of Fallout and Arcanum, but it seems that I don't have voice sounds playing anymore, I start making my character and I get to the voices option, I hit play and no sound for the selected voice, it applies to both games as well. I remove both games from my computer and I reinstall them, not once, but twice, and still nothing works, I hope that I can get some sort of help here and play this game the right way. Another note of importance is that combat sounds are non-functioning as well, like sword attacks, spells work though, at least in the BG2 beginning cut-scene but the characters in this part have no voice sounds.

Same Problem ... No Character Sounds. When you set up your character and get to where you choose a voice; there is No Voice Sound when you click to hear it and playing these games there are no character sounds etc. I bought the Anthology from Atari which was a digital download and I see there are GOG files in the folders. Obviously something has been changed for these releases. Any Help for us? I am going to try running in 98 compatibility mode and be sure all hardware acceleration is off and see if that works. Otherthan that a complete reinstall is the only thing I can think of.
I have the same problem. Did you figure out how to get the voices and other sounds to work yet?

PROBLEM SOLVED
Uninstall the Problem Game and then REINSTALL in its own folder ... NOT in the default x86 Program Files folder. All Sounds working now.
Seems a Lot of games have problems when installed to Windows 7 Program files Folder as default ... simply uninstall and Reinstall into its own folder on the C drive. WORKS!!!!
Another Problem was that I had been playing around with the sound control panel and not only had the EQ and Reverb set but also had the Speaker set up for 5-1 surround (which sounded cool in the headphones) but I don't have a 5-1 speaker system so that setting was also messing up the sound as IT was changing the Stereo Output and directing some sound to non existant speakers.

I just created an account here to say that you're awesome.. I really love this game, and I have a bit of nostalgia since the Enhanced Edition is coming out soon, so I decided to play it for the first time in about six months. Low and behold... no sound now. Read troubleshootings everywhere, but to no avail. Until I read this. It was my speaker configuration. I am usually on 5.1, but I'm dual monitoring through my tv with sound on it, instead of my 5.1. I took your advice and changed it to stereo instead of 5.1.. BOOM. You're the man. And thanks for being my hero by replying a fix to your own message, even though you knew nobody would probably ever look at it. Thanks so much, buddy. You've made my week
