Yeah, so, when the characters I remove from my party explain how their have hurt feelings, I feel bad.

Also I feel like I'm missing out on stuff when I can't have all possible party members with me, and I won't play this game more than once, so the situation is a bit fubar.

Feel free to make me feel better :3
You'll come back to it and play again, we all do!

Although I usually play as a "good" character, since I always feel bad about being evil all the time, so I have missed out on some fun parts.

Perhaps the next time I'll try the "lawful evil" approach...
Use them as cannon fodder and you can mourn the loss and not feel bad about booting them out. ;-)

But if they die someone in the party will have their heart broken and I feel like I'm responsible because I had the means of sparing the person's life.

Life is precious. :(

LOL! Masklin2, I've had BG1 in my possession for 6yrs now, BG2 for 7.5yrs now, and I've bought no less than 10 games since I've been on gog.com (2 of which are copies of BG1 & 2!), and BG1 will yet still be the game I play next after my current Planescape: Torment run is over! So yeah, unless you either hate or feel neutral towards the BG series, trust me, you'll be back to play it - especially once you familiarize yourself w/the BG modding community.

As for feeling bad when removing party members, don't. They *want* you to feel bad, w/the exception of Xan, of course, as he's doomed no matter what his situation is.

Simply roleplay that you tell those ex-party members that they are liabilities regarding your goals, which is a nice way of saying that they'll most likely die if they choose to travel with you still. Thus they're better off not adventuring with you.

Or juss eliminate them b/c you don't like their attitude, alignment, or how they go about their profession, and how it conflicts w/the rest of the party you have.

Edit: And regarding BG1, among all joinable NPC's, who truly belongs with your PC other than Imoen (grew up w/PC), Jahiera & Khalid (both swore to Gorion to protect PC), and Minsc & Dynahier (indebted to PC for risking his/her life to save Dynahier)? You can obviously roleplay otherwise to make your story fit to bring in others, but as it stands, no one has more claim than those I mentioned to adventure w/the protagonist. Rather, other joinable NPC's reasons for staying would all come off as pretentious in comparison, save for a few like Kivan, Yeslick, etc. :o)

Hey Masklin2, I know exactly what you mean. I want to bring them all with me.
Well, I store them. I let them in a nice Inn, pay some ales at the bar and ciao. At a certain point, the Feldpost Inn had as guests Kivan, Viconia, Safana, that evil dwarf dude, Garrick, Denaheir, Minsc, Jaheira and husband. Almost couldn´t reach the Barkeeper anymore. And can´t let the guys just die too. Jaheira as a widow (although what she says when Kahlid takes the dirt nap so soon is funny every time it happens). I rescue NPCs, take them to better places before leaving them. I´ve let die just Xzar and Montaron, while running like hell from a pissed Ogre, and that neutral druid hag in Cloakwood, she was eager for dying for the cause anyway.

Sounds like you're playing with the "standard" party. Let go. Play through once with the evil characters. They'll make you feel better.

You're going to feel a lot worse that you didn't keep him in your party... when Tiax rules.
