I suppose this is a simple question- I started playing BG1 and have been enjoying it immensely. There have been little issues (the half-ogre quest doesn't work for instance), but it has not been unplayable in the least. That being said, are there any completely necessary patches? I just finished NWN1, and I had not known there was a critical rebuild patch- hoping to nip that in the bud this time.

Thanks!

If you have the GOG version, there are no necessary patches (you do not need Dudley fixes or Baldurdash), though there are some minor bugs, but what game does not? I play BG1 vanilla by preference, and the only patch I use is this one. Be sure to also download the Jondalar (Candlekeep tutorial) hotfix.

By the way, the half-ogre quest has never failed for me. Just be certain to kill four of them at the top of the Fisherman's Lake (where you see Drizzt), and don't use panic spells, because enemies sometimes can leave the map if you do. Remember, it is those four specific half-ogres you must kill.
Circle the map again even the explored areas. I found one still hiding up the top.

There are a couple of serious bugs in BG. The ones in BG2 are only minor.
You might need to apply graphic fixes for certain glitches, like the fog of war and etc.
Still, both games work fine "out of the box". I only apply the unfinished business and fix packs.
