Hey y'all... so this is my first post. I don't often participate in forums because i'm way too shy but I couldn't let this question go.

The other day I was playing my GOG version of Baldur's Gate and I got to the edge of the map where you first meet Elminster (the road to Beregost) and suddenly felt something was wrong. I remember vaguely that there always used to be erm... *cough* a little boy NPC that wandered around where you get attacked by a bandit. (There's just no way that is not going to sound awkward haha)

At the end of the day one useless NPC isn't exactly going to ruin my life lol but the reason I ask is because it's got me worrying if anything else has been tweaked due to being too indecent for the 21st century? It wouldn't surprise me, what with everything being so PC and politicized today.

I want my BG unaltered with its dirty night harlots, children that know way too much about the world and sleazy drunks. I would be kind of disappointed if it has been changed.

Edit: Never mind, I checked the game again and the NPC I thought wasn't there was this time. Odd, since the other day he was nowhere to be found. A better question for this topic would be can you delete posts?

I think not. :P There is no censorship on GOG releases to my knowledge. I think lots of folks would be pissed if they did that.

It is possible some NPCs might be on a schedule, though. I cannot remember much of BG1, but certainly in BG2 some only show up at a certain time of day, or after a certain event. In general though, as with any decent RPG, there should be plenty courtesans to go around. ;)
NPCs don't really have "schedules" so to speak, but there are a few that only appear at certain times of day. It's most noticeable in BG2 with all of the merchants that go home or show up at night, but it happens in BG1 as well, though less so. If a character appears at one place at one time of day and another place at a different time, it's generally two separate instances of the same creature... unless it's quest-related, which means they probably walked there. The kid may have wandered off, or you might have been there at the wrong time.

The time breaks are at the half-hour mark, in one-hour blocks, so you might have to stand around waiting a little longer than you expect for a particular guy to show up or disappear. The game doesn't differentiate days of the week, either, so every day is generally the same.
I'm not certain, but I think that kid is south of the region in which you meet El Minster; I'm sure he's not in the same region (and I played the original version years ago). Keep playing, you should find him.
Thanks guys, I checked the site again just after posting my message yesterday and the kid was oddly enough there. I remember it being the same too... BGII definitely had schedules but the first game not so much.

My faith in GOG = returned. I shall now go and buy BGII to as punishment :p
Sometimes BG 1 npcs in the wild are tricky to find. In particular, I always end up searching all over the place for Gerde, the woman who pays you to hunt Ankhegs.
