I have Garrick in my party (vanilla BG1), and he has six spells memorised. Having added Xan I need to use Garrick for Evocation spells (prohibited to Xan), so I'm trying to get Garrick to scribe Magic Missile from a scroll. But he never manages to write it successfully (reloaded several times, even used another scroll that I found). I get "You copy the spell to your Mage Book), but it never appears there.

13 Intelligence should be enough to learn nine spells a level. And I have added Colour Spray without a problem.

He is at level 3, and I am using GemRB, if that makes a difference.

Well, 13 Int lets you write exactly 9 spells per level. Have you tried e.g. using the potion that increases Int and then writing the scroll, this would also increase the chance to write?

Anyway, if he could not write the scroll (because of max number of written spells at that level), there would be no "Write magic" button for all of the scrolls for that particular level.

Other than that I think that this might be some kind of a bug. If it is Garrick that is causing the bug, I would suggest removing him from the party, rejoining and then trying again. Maybe killing him off and raising?

A bard can *only* have 2 first level spells at caster level 3. To have six spells (3 first, 2 second, 1 third) he would need to be caster level 7.
@Tuthrick: Looks like it was a bug. Kept loading and writing the two Magic Missile scrolls, and ended up with two copies scribed in Mage Book.

@Hickory: My mistaken terminology. He can only memorise two, but can learn up to nine if I understand things correctly.
