Me and my brother are both running BG1 on Windows 7 x64, both running it as an admin, have all ports and firewalls open, etc. on the same LAN, trying to use Game Ranger because we can't connect. Whenever one of use hosts the game, the other's game crashes to a black screen instead of launching the game. Any ideas?
Note: We tried Hamachi as well, it only made things worse.
I submitted a help request to Game ranger but was told that a reply "was not guaranteed"

Have you tried starting multiplayer in windowed mode then expanding it once the character creation is done?

Tried that, didn't work, other player just got a black window.
