Hi,

I want to make a full run with a custom party starting with BG1.
My team is :
Sorcerer
Mage Invoker
Kensai
Blade
Swashbuckler
Dwarven defender

On the paper it looks very powerfull but I have some issue.
Should I add an Inquisitor to counter all the mages of BG2. In that case who do I take off.
I have no priest spells so no heal and no priest protection spells. Will it be an issue ?
the Sorcerer & Mage Invoker are both the same role so you could drop one
Kensai is paper thin until very late in the bg2 so that is who I would dump
Blade & Swashbuckler, again mostly the same role
Dwarven defender = good in bg1, limited value in bg2 and worthless at the end

honestly I would not take this party shopping at the markets

I on the other hand suggest taking two casters. It'll be harder at the beginning of BG1, but in BG2 these guys are heavy artillery. Casters in overall are good in countering other casters, so there's no requirement for an Inquisitor. It's your call though.

Thanks for your reply.
I will go for :
Sorcerer
Kensai 13 dual Mage Invoker (with the full play throught you get enough xp)
Blade
Swashbuckler
Berserker
Cavalier

Will the cavalier will be enought to get all the cleric spell or do I need a real cleric or druid ?
better cleric or druid ? Witch on will be the strongest in TOB ?
I am not found of the multi class because I want a full kits party for more fun, and I already played BG1 and 2 with classic classes.
Cavalier will not cut it no so you need a Cleric, Druid or Sharman yes... in this group you don't have a rang fighter so a human Fighter\ Kensai could dual to Druid which would give her iron skin along with her heals and thats prob your best bet

I don't see any way this group could win the final boss fight of SoD but at least a good healer gives you some options
If I recall correctly, a dual class can only become the unkitted version of the second class. Invoker is a mage kit, so the Kensai would dual to general purpose mage, not Invoker mage. There is an oddity here that BG1 Classic allowed dualing to specialist mages, but from what I read, neither BG1EE nor any BG2 allow this.

Although none would be optimal range fighters, I think most those characters could perform ranged attacks. The Kensai is limited to throwing weapons (daggers, axes, hammers), but is not melee-only. The Cavalier is a bit unclear. The manual explicitly says "No missile weapons", but then the Kensai says the same thing, and I've seen Kensai use throwing daggers as a ranged attack.
in the first builds you could have special mages as your second class but yes he is going to play EE and its been locked to first class only as per the rules i.e, his Kensai could dual to Wizard, Druid, Thief or Cleric and would then be limited more in his weapon choices making staff one of the better options... he could also stay Kensai and use Axes which has a few throwing options but you are correct that this party as it stands now is mostly a melee only party and that's why I can't see it getting past the final boss fight in SoD

Hi,

With modification after your advice I got this party :
Sorcerer
Kensei 13 dual Mage
Blade
Swashbuckler
Archer
Berserker 9 dual Cleric

My Swashbuckler wil start with a crosbow in BG1 then go for melee specialisation.

If I dual Berserker 9 Cleric, looking at the experience table it will be during Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear.
So will it be an issue to do all BG1 and durlag tower with no cleric ?
Durlag tower is doable without heals if you save up on potions... not easy but doable

you will need to do Siege of Dragonspear without getting your first class back if you dual that late and the Archer will be a big help... finding enough +3 weapons for the rest of your party could prove a challenge but good luck
