I got the original not the enhanced edition so I am wondering does the originals multiplayer still work

Yes, but with modern operating systems, especially if they are all different, it can be tricky to set up -- best if all had the same OS. Many people swear by Gameranger (I don't know) and many can't get it running unless in Windowed mode (you can switch back to full screen afterwards). But it *does* work.

I played multi on Win 7, not sure about more recent ones. Might be harder, but there's surely a way to get it working.
