As the subject line says. I find myself with a ton of objects I'd like to keep, but my bags are running full. My stronghold has a bunch of tables, chests and whatnot. Will these provide safe long-term storage?

I would say YES :P

In fact, i had a stronghold in the wizard sphere (as i am an Invoker) and i kept most of my items there ..
If my memory serve me correct, those items were still there even after i save Imoen and chase Irenicus back to Amn....

But for my case, eventually i realise it wont matter even if i lose those items, i already brought those who were valuable and useful, i was overflow with money at the closing end of the game, so i just keep some of those items that 's only serve as remembrance ...but stronghold should be safe for keeping your items;-)
Any container type of thing (chest, box, barrel etc.) will keep the items for you. Some people even use the containers on the 1st level of Watcher's Keep while still in Shadows of Amn, so they can keep their stash at the ready once the Throne of Bhaal part of the trilogy begins (as once you're in ToB, you can't go back to SoA....though I think you might be able to do it with CLUA Console, and find your stuff still in your stronghold....not sure about it though; it's only a theory).

However, I roleplay that my PC & party make good friends with Jan Jansen, Mazzy, Anomen, Viconia, Valygar & Nalia ---all part time in my party--- and we equip them so they can make a formidable party on their own together.

Trust me, even when you fully equip those six with stuff as good as your own party's (ie - even give them one of the three Rod of Resurrection's found in the game), your PC & party still has a considerable amount of fine weaponry, defense, magicks, and gold for themselves. I even keep on equipping those six right up until my party's last day in Athkatla, and my party still has enough left over to be considered wealthy.

True, but be wary of storing things in containers around strongholds before whatever stronghold quest is completed. The area changes after the stronghold quest, including the containers.

Other containers are safe. Or stronghold containers - after the quest is completed.
^ Gotcha! Good thinking man!
Once again, several answers deserved to be marked as the solotion. Thanks everyone.

Re strixo's comment: Control of the stronghold was granted me by its former owner, I take it that counts as completing the stronghold quest.

Re bladeofBG's comment: After BG1 I expect I too will eventually have a ton of money and items to spare. This is, however, my first playthrough and I'm keeping spoilage to an absolute minimum, so tend to keep stuff around until I'm certain it will not be needed. What's cluttering up my inventory are mainly scrolls, several kinds of arrows and bolts and notes & other things possibly requred to complete quests. These things take up a lot of inventory space.

^ Oh yeah I've gotten much better with not spoiling plot stuff in my posts! I'll warn before I do so!

However, it's good for you to know that wands & rods can be recharged at Ribald's store, and even a few other stores as well! That's not a spoiler as much as it's a helpful tip to those who might not fully understand the magic system (which Charname already knows, regardless of his/her class, due to growing up under the tutelage of the wizard Gorion!).

Your posts above were helpful, and I didn't find them spoiling in any way.
