I'm new to cog and i would like to know if baldurs gate will work on chrome books or netbooks

Chromebooks are usually running a Linux operating system and the GOG version of Baldur's Gate is Windows only.

You would have to run a Windows virtual machine to play the game and that could be a bit too much for some netbooks.

...I don't know anything much about linux, but I assume you're aware that, in Windows, Baldur's Gate (And indeed NWN) don't run using DOSBox?

Yes I know and I should have given it a second thought. The intention was a lightweight emulator, that might run on a Chromebook, but Baldur's Gate simply doesn't run under DOS. Hence my suggestion was nonsense.

Yes, sure, Wine would do, if the netbook is powerful enough and you get it running under Chrome OS (which could be more difficult than under other Linux distributions).

Isn't ChromeOS just another distro based on other distro (only with Google logo on it)? I really doubt that the machine isn't powerful enough to run BG/BG2 (considering WINE Is Not Emulator :))?

I did some google-in and only thing that could prevent WINE from running is architecture, but more on that HERE.

As you've googled, it looks like they did some funky things with this distro. Lots of things seem not to work at all, but I haven't used it myself yet, so frankly I don't know. Yep, I'd second this (at least with BG1 as it doesn't use graphics acceleration, but BG2 does). Though Baldur's Gate has some issues running on Linux (through Wine). Not so much BG1 but BG2. This might be one of the reasons, why we don't have any Linux (or OS X) versions of games using the Infinity Engine here on GOG, yet.

Back to childsy77's question, the game won't work out-of-the-box on a chromebook, but there's a chance to get it running.

i just wanted to take the quick moment to say that the website is G O G, not c o g (good old games is what it used to stand up for). I thought I'd let you know, otherwise you'll never find your way back here.

OS-wise, there will be a few issues easily bypassed. GOG's Baldur's Gate can be run on Linux easily with Play on Linux / Wine. There is GEMRB to, a let's call it sourceport of the original engine Baldur's Gate ran in. This "port" is available on Linux.

Hardware-wise, I wouldn't be sure, but as far my experience goes, older games require more resources in order to run nicely in newer systems. A good example would be my Eeepc (with Windows 7 x64, that is :P), which struggles running Shadow Warrior and the original Rise of the Triad. DOOM runs nicely only because of the vastly optimized zDoom.

Keep both parameters in mind.

What if you'reusing crouton?

I relied to another one of your posts, but Crouton would do the trick. I've had pretty good success running classic games through it, especially when using WINE to extend your gaming options.
