I was wondering, should I buy the regular editions of Baldur's gate one and two, and mod them to improve game play, resolution, and fix bugs, or should I get the enhanced editions of both when they are on sale. I'm just a modern day teenager, so I'm not used to older games, but i really like DAO so I wanted to try this. Please help me decide which versions to get. Thanks!

If you want to play Baldur's Gate, the *real* Baldur's Gate, then get the originals, play them at least once unmodded, then go over to mods if you wish. Note that being a 'modern day teenager' does not preclude you from enjoying old/er games, as they were meant to be enjoyed.

If, on the other hand, you don't give a crap about authenticity of these classic games, or you are more interested in 'new' than 'authentic', then by all means go for the revamped, overpowered BG:EE, but note that you will NOT be playing Baldur's Gate at all in this path.

Ok thank you, this really helped! I'll most likely get the originals, so i can get the real experience. I would rather play the authentic version than the version that is not.

Wow, teenagers are so impressionable. :D

I think there is nothing wrong with either edition; one is simply more convenient than the other.
I own both editions and EE is so much better. I recently started my BG1 EE playthrough, and I'm never going back to the classics again. Also, you can't mod the classic to EE since like 2/3 EE's features are exclusive and not present in mods, let me name some for you:
- better pathfinding
- zoom
- quick loot bar (it shows loot on the ground in separate tab for easy picking)
- tons of bugfixes (all present BG1 fixpacks like Baldurdash or Unofficial Patch 0.0015 are pretty basic, fixing dozens of bugs at best while EE fixes hundreds)
- option to change characters circle colors to be class specific instead of all green
- scaling UI and font size in real time
- 6 new sets of character voices (3 male and 3 female)
- 10 new portraits by Jason Manley
- showing current character action during combat in top-right corner of portrait
- spell scrolls available to learn for the selected character are specially marked
- ability to store one set of character rolls during char creation like in IWD (the screen now also shows the total roll value for quick reference - very handy)
- newer OpenGL renderer
- using TAB to highlight items and containers like in ToB

And that's only from top of my head, there are more. It also incorporates widescreen and font mods and graphical 1PP mod. Then you also get bonuses like Black Pit arena which is a fun combat challenge separated from the main campaign, class kits (one of the best additions imo, I always hated the bare classes of BG1 compared to full selection in BG2) and additional companions (Neera is awesome, I don't know about others since I didn't met them yet).

From my experience EE is even more Baldur's Gate than the classic.

As for BG2:EE, don't buy it yet, it still has bugs but there's a massive patch coming in November/December.

Hm, I kind of disagree. I am maybe a bit of a purist, I love playing games in their original form, but I like the original better. It just has a certain old charm to it, that isn't really conveyed in EE. I don't know, maybe I'm just weird like that. If one thing is for certain, it is that the cutscenes in the original are so much better. And, I'm just a modern day teenager too, haha. I still play old games though. I just started Wizardry 6. By Baldur's Gate, my favorite RPGS are Might adn Magic and the Ultima series.
It's still the same game, people are overreacting with this enhanced edition business.
If EE was released as a free patch back in the days, no one would say it robs the game of "the old charm" or is untrue to the base game.

As for the cutscenes, yes, the original ones are better, I don't know why they changed them. The intro and for example the Candlekeep briefing art are pretty lame, it looks amateurish. Still, it's such a minor detail it doesn't take anything from the overall experience.

That's not true. In particular BG1 is very different from BG:EE (and for that matter IWD:EE will be very different from IWD). There are big differences in terms of gameplay because the original games, just to mention few differences at random, don't have kits, have different skills for thieves, some spells works differently, etc.

The differences between BG2 and BGII:EE are less noticeable, but still substantial.

My recommendation is, as always, to play without any mods the fist time (with the possible exception of fixpacks, bigger fonts and widescreen mod) and this can only be achieved by playing the original games.
