This is a new PC with a fresh install of Win 10 Pro. I downloaded GOG Galaxy and it seems to be running OK; many other games working as intended, except Baldur's Gate (thus far).

At first, it'd not respond. I'd click 'Play' and nothing would happen. I searched the forums and found something about OpenAL32.dll - so I downloaded the DLL, put it in the game's folder and voilá-- it opened, but without any sound! I tried everything I'd think of, but no sound.

This is really weird 'cause I don't remember having any issues installing & running Baldur's Gate before (in my old PC).

==FIXED!==

For some reason the installer is borked as of June 17, 2022: it won't install OpenAL; you have to COPY the 'oalinst.exe' file to your desktop and then run it as administrator to make it work.

Here's a step by step solution:

1. Go to Programs & Features;

2. Find 'OpenAL'; if it's not there, SKIP steps 3 & 4;

3. Uninstall OpenAL - just in case you have a faulty installation;

4. Restart your PC;

5. Install BGEE (either one) and open its folder;

6. Copy 'oalinst.exe' to your desktop**;

7. Run it.

8. Have fun with Minsc and party.

** don't try to run it from within the game's folder **

you just stuck a randum file into you new system?

okey the dll is for 3D audio on systems without hardware which suggests to me you skipped a few steps in your new computer setup
i recommend looking for installation media or goto the makers website and download the chip set, network and sound drivers

once you have all that sorted then right click the bgee exe and try running it as admin [see image]... that should stop your antiv \ nanny bots from getting in the way of running the game

also Language: English? if you don't at least have it installed on your system as a 2nd then the game will have prob

Not a random file. I downloaded the dll from the OpenAL website.

Drivers are all up to date: intel, nvidia et cetera.

I'll check if the English package is installed as an option and get back to you. *EDIT*: as I suspected, it made no difference. I re-installed for the fifth time, but no luck. It simply refuses to work.

if you allow Galaxy to run as Admin it should also be allowed to install 3rd party software without the need to copy/ paste things around but once you have openal setup it shouldn't need to be reinstalled so its much of a muchness now

gratz on getting it working and yes stop by the friendly arm inn for a drink
