I've installed BG on a 17" widescreen laptop.

The game plays in a small box in the middle of the screen, surrounded by a big black area and I can't find any place in the settings or the ini file to change the resolution.

Is there any way to fix/change this?

I'm not by my laptop right now, but I'd guess the maximum (default) resolution for the screen is something like 1600x1050; I doubt I'd need the game to play at that, but anything bigger would be a plus.

if i remember correctly you can't change resolution in bg1, if you also have bg2 i'd suggest either installing bgt or bgtutu (read more here)

however if you have only bg1 you might want to check this out, i dunno if it works for sure but should be worth a try at least.

either way you can change the resolution to whatever you wish.

Quite aside from mods and widescreen patches, the black bars suggest your video card settings are set to 'do not scale'. You should be able to (depending on your video card) set it to upscale to your screen size (like zooming a small photo). Most allow you to maintain aspect ratio, or stretch to fill screen (makes everyone really fat).
