Hello, everyone. A friend and I have been trying like hell to play Baldur's Gate online together. We've done the port forwarding, tried Hamachi, all that good stuff, each time both he and I attempting to host when the other should fail.

Finally I started reading around on the forum and heard about GameRanger, which people seem to be all about. So we both downloaded it to give it a shot, joined a room together, and started a game. When either of us would do this, the game would start up for the host and simply run through the opening cinematics and end up at the main menu, while in GameRanger we would see something like this:

<<Starting Game>>
<<Returned from Game>>
<<[Username] Aborted Game>>

(The game would not open at all for the person who had simply joined the room, as opposed to posting. They would just see those messages in the room window.)

And yes, we both did make sure that Hamachi was turned off before we tried GameRanger.

I'm posting this question here as opposed to the GameRanger forums considering people here who specifically have the GOG version seem to have gotten it to work. Please, does anyone have any suggestions?

I've never tried to play the BG series online, but try I think if you're playing MP online, make sure in your BG game that you click MultiPlayer, then Connect, then click TCP/IP. I think that's the option instead of 'Join Game' or 'New Game.'

Hopefully that helps. I reckon GameRanger is the only source to play BG online nowadays. So it's definately possible. Hopefully someone more experienced in this can help you, if my theory doesn't work.

Yeah, been through all that. Before installing GameRanger my buddy and I tried going the normal route both with and without Hamachi and to no avail no matter who tried to host.

Thanks for the tip, though, appreciate the thought. Anyone around who's used GameRanger with BG specifically who might have any suggestions?
Gameranger did it to me too.

Got the same versions?
I suggest making sure you are running tales of the sword coast, and not the original Baldur's Gate. My buddies and I had the same problem, and we found out that running tales of the sword coast fixes this problem.

Hope this helps.
