This issue happens in all BG 1 / BG 2 / Icewind Dale / icewind Dale 2.

As for those who said that its something that happens with newer OS, That's actually false. I used to play Icewind Dale on a Acer Aspire One with windows 7 home prem. on it and it did not required to be windowed after every time I tried to create a new game. Though there where other issue (Casting Glyph of warding would crash the game).

Solution above worked fine. Thanks :D
I'm struggling with same problem, too. But no idea as to how to run in window... Anyone willing to help? (Windows 7)

The only way to run Baldur's Gate I in windowed mode is through the game itself. If the game works correctly in single-player mode you can access the video options menu. There you can check Full Screen mode. If it's not checked the game will switch to windowed mode. And this will stay like this until you check the box again.
Hey, wondering how to run BG II in windowed mode. There is no video options menu as the above post describes. Any help would be appreciated

Run BGConfig.exe from your BG2 directory.
Graphics>Display>windowed mode
I had the same problem.

I don't know if this helps you, but in my case I added Baldur's Gate folder to exceptions in my firewall software, turned on access to private and public networks for Baldur's Gate in windows firewall settings, set the Baldur's Gate to run it as an administrator, and disabled visual themes and desktop composition on the shortcut's properties window in the compatibility tab. Now Multiplayer starts with a slight pause but it starts in full screen.

I've been trying to play solo multiplayer, and ran into the "freezing" issue when I selected "serial" at the initial menu, so would this process work for me? Forgive me, but I am not all that computer savvy. How do I get into my firewall software? I have the "Charter Security Suite", what with me having Charter as my ISP.
