BG2 seems to appears to run fine at every possible graphical setting.... Until I try resting. When ever I click the rest button I see the first frame of the rest movie and then it crashes and askes me of I want to send the error report to microsoft.

Any ideas whats causing this or how to work around it? I think a quick fix maybe to disable all ingame movies if that's possible somehow.

Thanks!

Open the baldur.ini file in the main BG2 Directory and under [Program Options] add the line

Disable Movies=1
If the game still crashes when movies are disabled, add the line Logging On=1 to baldur.ini under [Program Options], start and crash the game and post the contents of your baldur.err file.
Still crashes, heres the log:

That's baldur.log, not baldur.err.
Just edited it

In baldur.err(accidently posted baldur.log) I had this:

---------------------Start Logging Session---------------------

---------------------Start Logging Session---------------------

---------------------Start Logging Session---------------------

---------------------Start Logging Session---------------------

---------------------Start Logging Session---------------------

Well, if it crashes with movies turned off and there are no error messages you're in for a treat (i.e. it could be anything).
Got any mods installed?
Mods? No, nothing added to what the GOG install included. I installed it on 2 different computers and both of them seem to work find now. So something on my main computer is causing BG2 to not like the resting event.

RagingChaos: [...]
It happens both in wilderness / at Inn?
From the very beginning of the game, or did it worked and suddenly stopped?

Sorry for these one-question-at-time posts, but without logged errors it'll be hard to pinpoint the cause.

And, sometimes the simplest fix: in case of Vista/Win7, are you running the game as the administrator?
I can't really progress on my main computer because it always crashes when you click rest regardless of if the movies are disabled. So yes, from the very beginning and I cant get any further since I kind of need to rest for HP and spells.

I am running this in windows XP.

For reference BG1 runs perfect, I had no problems until the final battle where it'd crash with an assertion error no matter what I did. I spent close to 3 hours hunting up and trying fixes before saying "SCREW IT!" and using the console cheats to kill sevan0sdfskldf-or-what-ever-his-name-was. First I spawned drizzt and run out of sight, game still crashed so I resorted to the ctrl+y insta-kill cheat.

side note
After playing BG2 on my backup computer for a couple hours: I am really impressed with it so far. I never played it before(just BG1) so I didn't know what to expect. It feels JUST like BG1 only more polished and fleshed out. The dialog so far has been excellent. The story has the same same dark-foreboding feel just like BG1
