when i click the shortcut to play BG2 my screen goes black for roughly 5 seconds then does nothing or when i go into program files and find gog then find the Baldurs gate 2 file open that then click on the BG2 application and then a message comes up saying this is your first time running baldurs gate 2 please take a moment to configure the game. once you have your settings the way you want click ok to save your changes and the game will launch but i doesn't

What's your OS?
I'd say to try some compatibility modes to start out. And don't install to C:\Program Files\

I'm looking at the ToB Config but...
you should trying playing with the "graphic" options
namely

with or without OpenGL 3d acceleration,
fullscreen or windowed
640x480 at 16 bit color
800x600 at 32 bit color
etc.

or try using the ForceDirectDrawEmulation shim from Microsoft's ACT
