I have not paid attention to this earlier, so I don't know for how long it has been a problem, or if it's even a problem:

The case is I am going to kill Sarevok, but I will like to reach a new level before facing him in a fight. My party consists of 6 people and my own experience is 89.000 xp - next level is at 110.000 xp. (I don't know for how long I have had 89.000 xp, but after notice the xp-level at 89.000 xp I have killed about 8 ettercaps, 4 wyverns, 6 giant spiders, 2 Battle Horrors, some hobgoblins, gibberlings and bandits without increasing in xp!! Have anyone else tried this?

Maybe it isn't a problem at all, because the xp-calculator stores the memory of the monsters killed and only updates when I reach a new level?

That's the experience cap. Baldur's Gate 1 simply won't allow you to advance beyond 89,000 XP. Installing the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion raises the cap somewhat, though, I think to 161,000 XP. And I would be surprised if there weren't a mod or three floating around capable of doing away with the cap entirely.
Hi Malcolm.

Thanks for solving my question. I will definately look out for a mod that can get rid of the experience cap, then.
But if the game sets the bar at 89.000 xp it should be enough to get rid of Sarevok..

It is. If your level cap is set at 89,000 it means you don't have Tales of the Sword Coast installed, which also means that Sarevok is suitably less potent than if it was installed.
