As the title states, Baldur's Gate crashes every fifteen minutes on my MacBook Pro OSX 10.8.5 with the following error message: "The program BGMain2.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

This has made the game frustratingly unplayable, especially when the crashes occur right after a difficult battle. Has anyone else encountered this problem and is there a solution to it?

Hardware info:

CPU: 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
RAM: 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
GPU: Intel HD Graphics 4000

Thank you in advance, I'll provide more information if required.

I just want to bump this post, as I'm having the same or very similar issue. The game crashes, giving the error message mentioned above, and so far it does not appear to be triggered at any particular moment or under any certain in-game conditions.

I'm on a MacPro 3,1 (early 2008)
OSX 10.9.5
2x2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon - CPU
12gb 800 MHz DDR3 - RAM
ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB - GPU

Anyone else having similar issues or know of any solutions yet? Its not quite unplayable, but its definitely making it very difficult to enjoy.
Happens to me all the time. Really annoying. Right now I'm in Durlag's Tower, at the level with the Wisdom tome and game crashes every single time when fighting the crazed mage.

I really think it's some sort of spell effect that causes these crashes, cause I too seem to get crashes most often during fights.

Playing on a 15" MacBook Pro from mid 2014, no mods installed, just a custom portrait used.

Crash always seems to happen after the mage casts his first Dimension Door, Chaotic Commands and Mirror Image. The spell that follows after Mirror Image might be the culprit. Or perhaps something is wrong with Mirror Image itself when casted by (blurred) enemy?

Hello

I thinking I am having the very same problem. The game always crashes when fighting dopplegangers who are using mirror image and haste. It has also crashed with the dimension door spell, though not every time. Otherwise it seems to work fine.

I would really appreciate a fix as this is preventing me from continuing with the game, and I only just downloaded it to finish an old savegame.

I am running OSX Yosemite 10.10.5 (14F1509).

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you.
In case anyone was thinking of trawling the previous threads for a solution, I have done so and couldn't see one.

I seem to remember there is an option to disable spell effects in the BG config programme which might help, but I can't figure out how to open it in the Mac version. Has anyone been able to do this?

:)

I've actually given up on the issue and run the game through a Windows VM now.

This has made the game frustratingly unplayable, especially when the crashes occur right after a difficult battle. Has anyone else encountered this problem and is there a solution to it?

Hardware info:

Thank you in advance, I'll provide more information if required.
Please re-download the Mac version of the game and try again.

The new version: baldurs_gate_the_original_saga_2.0.0.8.dmg (each language has also received an updated DMG so look for the 2.0.0.8 in the file name :) )
So is the Mac version more prone to crashing than the Windows version? Please and thanks.

2.0.0.8 still crashes in battles persistently. The message is the same: "The program BGMain2.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

I'm on EL Capitan MacBook 2015.
same over here. quite sad that there seems no solution yet.....
I get the same sort of crash in Kubuntu/Ubuntu (linux). It's random. Strangely, seems to happen more often or only in dungeons or indoors. I don't remember it ever crashing when I was playing it in windows. I guess I can't expect a game made for windows to always run right in linxu. Could be my version of WINE. Who knows, could be anything.

EDIT: I copied the BG1 files from my windows setup when I started. Could that cause any trouble?

The issue still exists, just wanted to make this thread up to date

What's the version # on here? For some reason (probably me) I can't seem to see the version number. I have not bought the game yet. I have a MacBook Pro OS v10.15.4.

On the Mac store I can see this game is at version 2.5 and it states it is compatible with my Mac and OS.

I was looking to buy on here but really no idea if this version is the same (or higher) than the one in the Mac Store.
