I've got the OG BG1 and BG2 complete. I have a new machine and am using Windows 10 but neither of these games will start. Installation goes smooth. Every time I click the play button, it goes grey and thinks for a few seconds then nothing happens. I've tried running it in compatibility mode, I've tried running it straight from windows explorer, I've tried installing it to a different directory than ProgramFiles but nothing seems to work. I've sent out a ticket to GOG but I thought I'd check here to see if anyone had any more ideas. Thanks!

If it is on the Galaxy, try running the game directly from the .exe file in installation folder (BGMain.exe)

Same problem here. It neither starts from the galaxy client, direct from the game folder nor when installed without galaxy with the client from the website (even when starting as admin):

the appication was unable to start correcely (0xc0000022) click ok to close appication.

Me too. Purchasing this game from GOG was my fallback plan when my disk copy wouldn't run on Windows 10, but I got the exact same error.

There was a similar problem raised in the Icewind Dale forum (both users were running Win 10) and the problem seemed to be fixed by doing the following;

Try enabling DirectPlay: open "Control Panel" and enter "Programs and Features", then choose "Turn Windows features on or off", check "DirectPlay" under "Legacy Components" and lastly click "Ok" (rebooting may be required).

I am having similar issues, using Win 7. Never have had a problem before, but this a is a new(old) laptop. So, first time trying BG1 on this laptop.

First tried Play from Galaxy, and nothing happens at all....the Play button goes grey, but then turns green again. Tried from folder....nothing happened at all. Tried both application and launcher. Changed to Run as Admin, and made them Serv Pack 3. Nada. The start up page comes up.....albeit in a miniature form in the center of the screen. But, when you click Play there, nothing happens.

What the hell? My prior laptop ran Win 7 and had zero issues running BG1 here, if memory serves. Probably some stupid Windows update....probably the same one that causes my cursor to hijack where I'm typing and makes me feel like going postal!

It work for me as well, thanks Pajama. Now i have to deal with aspect/ratio problem. I enabled my GPU scaling on AMD crimson but it is not working.
