I have the original Baldur's Gate on DVD and it installed and runs fine. But when I try to install Tales of the Sword Coast, it gives me an error that Baldur's Gate is either corrupted or not installed on my computer--which is not true.

I have Windows 7 64 bit as an OS, and I have tried moving the Baldur's Gate folder from the Programs File to the sitting by itself on the C drive. Nothing seems to work. Tales doesn't seem to think BG is on my computer.

Anybody else having this problem. Of course if I just buy the game from GOG I could eliminate this, but I would like to at least try to get the game working from the disc.
I presume you have the Baldur's Gate 4-in-1 set, with BG on DVD and TotSC on CD.

Did you uninstall BG from Program Files and then reinstall somewhere else? If you just moved the directory, the system registry will still point to the original install location and TotSC won't be able to install. It will look for a directory and the files it requires that won't be there.
Yeah, I do have it in Program Files. It is a 4 in 1 DVD with Sword Coast on CD.

So I guess I have to uninstall it from my computer. Then maybe have System Mechanic find the broken registry key and delete it.

Unless there is a better way?
Just try uninstalling from "Program Files" and reinstalling somewhere else. ("C:\Games" or so). This is recommended regardless.

Other than that, I'm not sure if DVD version is already patched? You could try that before installing TotSC.

Shouldn't have to patch BG before installing Tales. It incorporates all patches except the Tales patch and the DX8 patch.
All,

Broke down and purchased the gog version. $10 poorer, but a quick fix to getting this game running. Thanks for everyone's suggestions, regardless
