Hi all!

I'm having troubles running GoG Baldur's Gate on my laptop (Alienware bought this year with Windows 7 64bits --> shouldn't really have problems running such a game ;)). When I launch the game, Baldur.exe appears in the task manager, along with rundll32, but this last one eats up a full CPU and never stops (thus preventing baldur.exe to display its launch window).

I tried to run the game in admin mode, launch it directly from the install directory (c:\BG in my case - I preferred to remove any "spaces in path" problem which appear with old games), and run it with XP compatibility, but nothing worked.

After some check on the Net, I also try to deactivate the updates checks/statistics of the Game Manager (no success) and to rename gameux.exe (but that one I couldn't try, because the system prevents me to change that file name - even if I'm an admin on my own computer?! O_O).

The only solution I found so far is one given on another site: launch the game, kill baldur.exe (keep rundll32 running), relaunch the game and then only kill rundll32. But as you can imagine, that's very annoying to do that each time :/ So anyone has an idea how to solve that once and for all? :(

Thank you very much in advance!!!

PS: no problem running Baldur's Gate II, nor any other GoG game I bought so far.
P PS: I haven't installed any mod yet (but I intend to install the Wide Screen mod, as soon as the game starts successfully ;))
This question / problem has been solved by olnortonimage
If BG2 works, you could try installing EasyTutu, as it doesn't affect the BG1 and BG2 installs. But I got the impression that you didn't want any huge modding (maybe it's your first play through or something). Did you try reinstalling?

Does the same thing happen if you run BGMain.exe?
Damn, olnorton was totally right! As I saw baldur.exe in the task manager, I didn't even took the time to check the other exe files of the game directory. And indeed, when launching the bgmain2.exe file, the game starts correctly without even launching the rundll32 program ^^
So thank you very much for those fast answers, my problem is solved now :D

NB: do you know why there is a bgmain.exe and a bgmain2.exe?

bgmain2 is from Tales of the Sword Coast.
If you start bgmain.exe it will run bgmain2.exe anyway.
Thank you very much :)
