Hello.

I recently wanted to go back to Baldurs Gate to play it , and I followed the guides here on this forum and was wondering if anyone can help me solve the problem I am having with EasyTutu.

Now I installed it normally and everything was followed according to the instructions, but after the installation I have problem with my screen looking like this:

Now I have not installed any of the widescreen mods, and also I can't even install it due to some strange error.

Also my screen resolution is 2560x1440 but in config its 800x600.

Does anyone have any suggestions ?

Also I have been thinking of using the Trilogy mod if I can't fix the EasyTutu problem but the thing is the game looks really far away and the UI and text are really small, and I don't know how to make thieves and bards have hooded robes, seeing as Imoen can bee seen without her hood in this picture:

Any assistance for either of these problems ?

Thanks in forward.
Try either:

1. Setting your desktop resolution to 640x480 or 800x600 before starting the game in the first place, or

2. Installing the widescreen mod.

(The original game supported only 640x480 and the then top of the line 800x600. I think BG1 (without TuTu/Trilogy) didn't even have 800x600; you could only play in 640x480. At least there's an option to exit the game!)

Yes you have, you must have. It is not possible for BG1 to look like that in it's original form: it only supports 640x480 resolution. Even BG2 (TuTu) only has 800x600. We need to sort this issue out first.

Well I can swear that I didn't install widescreen mod before TuTu, but I will try it again, should I uninstall widescreen mod or simply reinstall TuTu ?

You don't install the widescreen mod before TuTu, but that's not the issue. You made a blanket statement that you haven't installed it. You have, by your own admission: "should I uninstall widescreen mod...".

Uninstall *everything*, in the reverse order you installed it, and start again. Once you've installed just TuTu, run it before moving on to other mods.

Edit: Oh, and for your information, you do not need the widescreen mod for TuTu. Just run BGConfig in the game folder and enable unsupported resolutions. You don't need anything more than 1024x768 for BG, unless you want tiny figures like you mentioned.

Well I still tried it uninstalling it from the reverse order like you said Hickory but still the same problem (ofcourse I only installed BGTutu and nothing else). I think I will play the game vanilla once since I never played it like that before, but to avoid creating new threads I have few questions.

When I installed widescreen before (after TuTu ofcourse) my screen from the vanilla game looked like this, is there any mods to makethe GUI not look like this or is this the resolution problem since I used both 2560x1440 and 1280x720 and still the same result:

Sorry for the white background.

I thought of starting a new game with canon party with my PC being a Mage or Sorcerer, is this a good idea because I'm asking this because it would seem the party would later have 3 mages (Me, Dynaheir and Imoen DC-ed at level 6), will the game be difficult like this or should I change part or my PC to something else ?

And I don't know which to choose between Mage and Sorcerer, is there alot of difference between them (except the spell memorization) and are both strong enough for both the BG1 and 2 ?

Thanks in forward.

blabla.444: Speaking of which, I'm having a dilemma choosing between Mage and Sorcerer are both strong enough for both the BG1 and 2 ?
If you are familiar enough with the spells in the game, how they work, and which ones are useful, then Sorcerer is typically more powerful. Also, Sorcerer doesn't have the micromanagement of choosing how many of which spells to memorize.

Mage, on the other hand, is better if you want more room to experiment with the spells in the game. As a Mage, you can eventually learn every spell, but you have to micromanage your spell memorization; you can't just cast any spell you know when you need it (the way a Sorcerer can).

A third option that might be fun for some people: the Wild Mage class. A Wild Mage is like a Mage, except that you get 3 unique spells, 1 extra spell slot per spell level, and your spells sometimes misbehave in random ways (wild surges). Note that wild surges, while often not what you want and sometimes nasty, will sometimes work to your advantage. Just be prepared to reload if things go badly.

Your screen is a resolution problem. Do not use anything above 1024 x 768, because BG has fixed assets and they do not scale. The attached image is what your TuTu game should look like at 1024 x 768 -- note that I don't have 3D acceleration active, hence the jagged fog of war borders.

For your canon party, simply keep Imoen as a thief. There is no earthly reason to dual class her during a BG1 run, especially vanilla or TuTu, since your BG2 game will be imported anyway. Also, a canon party, with player as mage, will be lacking a cleric. I know that Jaheira has cleric spells, but only to a degree, and she lacks cleric abilities, like Turn Undead. To this end, consider making your character either a cleric, or cleric/mage, if you are intent on having mage skills. That's only my opinion, though. You must decide for yourself -- nothing is out of reach, and all things are possible, even solo runs.

Hickory: note that I don't have 3D acceleration active, hence the jagged fog of war borders.
I think that's actually due to removed support for hardware mirroring in DirectDraw on Windows 2000 and later (source: search for "DDBLTFX_MIRRORLEFTRIGHT" here).
You can fix this in Infinity Engine games by enabling Software Mirroring in the game's video options. (I think BG1 had this option too.)

Yeah, you're right, but it only affects the BG2 engine, which I don't normally play BG1 in, so it's never bothered me. BG1 doesn't need software BLT, at least not on any video card I've had.
Okay I went in with the Mage and I need help to see should I change my abilities because this is how they look like.

STR: 14
DEX: 18
CON: 16
INT: 18
WIS: 15
CHA: 10

I don't know should I have gone with 18 wisdom at the start of the game (and later boost it to 21 with 3 Tomes of Wisdom) , but because I just started the game I can change the these abilities to whichever ones would be best because I just only battled versus 2 assassins in Candlekeep so it would be fair if I made a mistake here.

I only put 14 points in strength (not sure if it was even worth it) because the guide at here said to have it at 14 to avoid some carrying problems:

Any suggestions on what to change ?

Thanks.

Your stats are monster (91). For a mage you do not need wisdom at all. You should switch those extra points to CHA, and you don't need 14 STR, since you have access to a Strength (long lasting) spell for emergency carrying.
Thanks for the info, it's just that I saw almost everyone recommending wisdom to be high because of maybe a Wish spell or for some reason.
