Brett8: It's a new game? I mean, kind of, but there was that nearly three-year EA period to iron out a few kinks. "New game" also feels like a better excuse for Larian, who made the game, rather than GOG, a middle-man sale and delivery service. This isn't an issue with BG3, this is an issue with one particular distributor of BG3, that it sounds like may be affecting more games than BG3.

Perhaps that is all forgivable under the "no one's perfect" doctrine if GOG's own published work-around--referring the community to the back-up direct install--worked, which it almost does. Unfortunately, and mind-mindbogglingly, the back-up install version is out-dated and does not include the updates through the latest August 11 patch, so even if someone has wasted their time installing a 100+ GB game multiple times, if they were already playing rather than a new user (say, someone trying to reinstall the game because GOG's client issues extended to preventing it from launching, probably due to cloud sync issues also through its client), their saves on the latest version of the game will all be incompatible with the out-of-date work-around GOG currently has available for the back-up install.

That's not the incompetence on display here? Godspeed to the community figuring out install files to delete, file names to change, .NET applications to download, and whatever else one can do to trick GOG Galaxy into thinking an install completed properly, but that's different than the installation actually completing properly and may be liable to cause issues down the line until GOG can actually get itself working again. That's not a real solution, and it's not a substitute for GOG being a reliable marketplace and distributor.

And you're instead upset about purported end-user incompetence? Honey, we're not selling a product, we bought a product--apparently from the wrong source. Speaking at least for myself, I will not make that mistake again.
Totally went off the rails and I don’t think fully understood/understand why I was speaking of incompetence. I understand end user anger and I even get your point above. Let me ask you this, was the game released worldwide on multiple platforms for years with millions of people trying to get and play it at the same time??? Hmm simple answer no, because…..it’s a “new” release. Also after I did what I did, mine cloudsaves and has been updating fine. I don’t find it worth my time argue with people like you. Go buy your games from steam then. I am an introvert who literally does not care go bark up another tree, “Honey”

Mushroompukka: did the steps, seemed to work, but verifying files has it now stuck at 91.4% instead! lol
this is my first time buying off GOG instead of steam & its sad that this is happeneing.
GoG can be 50/50 at times but they are decent enough! Sorry this happened to you with your first GoG purchase :'(.

Try not to let it deter you too much from GoG, just remember this can and will happen sometimes, in the end it should get fixed!

Try not verifying :/ sadly for now. Like some have commented they might wait as they don't want to chance corrupted saves/etc..... I've already put in 10+ hours when I could.

I just want to say thanks to everyone who has chimed in.

Changing Gustav.pak.download to Gustav.pak worked for me.

I tried the VPN fix first, but it didn't do anything.

What a frustrating 24 hours.

Thanks :), I agree thank you all for chiming in and making it possible for many of us to play once again (edit lol "at all"), I know I started this imperfect solution chain....so if 60 hours into your game something is broken, due note I am sorry.

Thank you everyone for commenting! Just want to also thank all you for posting your variants of the solution so quickly! I think we needed each to cover most everyone! I myself couldn't have done it alone, as my solution was just the first one didn't even touch the gustav.

iofhua: I'm kind of sus that the DRM-free version was broken on purpose. >_>

A lot of developers are pro-DRM.
I can absolutely sympathise with the frustration when a game does not work for you that you paid for.

But the DRM comment... What do you say to those of us for whom the Gog installation went without any issues?
Based on the number of people praising it, appearantly _someone_ got it installed... I did, anyhow.
This is really dropping the ball at the basics of being a game distribution service, GOG - I bought this from you guys because I respect what you've done for gamers, but if I can't even download the product without going through workarounds I just regret that I didn't choose Steam instead for this. I'm sure that's just the frustration of trying to install this for two days now talking, but please, fix this?

I’m getting no response from GOG on a refund. I feel like I’ve taken a coding 101 course after all the “solutions” they’ve made me try before letting me submit a refund. Why is this so hard?

same here :(
will try completely uninstalling and reinstalling overnight and see how it goes
There was a new update today (2023-04-16) and I had my updates stuck at 91% for a while. Step 1 fixed it for me ($GAME_FOLDER/!Temp and delete the hashdb file, same for the hashdb file in $GAME_FOLDER). Are hashes somehow wrong in the GOG version of the game?
stuck at 105.4 gb even though said only 92% dled.

/sign tried 1 and 2 and they didn't work for me thats all the work i am willing to put in for something i just bought. have become disillusioned with steam over the years but if i cant even dl the game .... refunded and back to steam, hope gog gets their shit together.

They backed out today's patch.
Having the 92 % issue ATM, frustrating, and Offline installer is over 28 files? Why? Ahhhh lol I Wana play!!!
Today the patch got stuck, and corrupted my install. I uninstalled the game, and still are stuck at 60MB of install. Doesn't do anything. I tried all the comments here and still are stuck. Any help would be great.
