Drelmanes: I'll have to reinstall everything? Even the fixpack?
avatar
GoJays2025: No, just the tweaks; the fixpack is supposed to be installed prior to BGT, while it's preferable to install the tweak pack afterward.
I'm having problems (re)installing the tweaks (see attached image).
What the $%*&¨#! -`_´-
Sorry, that is really irritating...

Your frustration is understandable. Unfortunately it sounds like you may have to redo the whole thing. However, (and I'm not truly familiar with this situation) it SHOULD be playable, you just might not see the full effects of certain tweaks, so if that's not a big problem then try to start a new game and see what happens!
Just warning some people that BGT adds a few new classes and rules and such to Baldur's Gate 1.
These have not been balanced for Baldur's Gate 1 so I would not suggest purists to play them.

Besides that you should be fine.

GoJays2025: 6. Download BGT-WeiDU and extract it in your Baldur's Gate II directory.
11. OPTIONAL: Download and install Baldur's Gate 1 Unifinished Business
Shouldn't I do step 11 before 6? Unfinished Business won't install in BG II folder (I think, haven't tried yet). Also, there's a typo there (Unifinished), just saying.

Edit: Forget what I said, it's possible to install in BG II folder.

What things should I avoid, can you be more specific?

Well basically BG2 features a slightly newer set of D&D rules (don't ask me the exact details, I know very little about D&D), and includes new character kits like the Kensai and Wild Mage. Basically these things weren't intended for BG1, so they could make the game slightly more difficult/easier. Nothing to really worry about though, the BG2 engine is a massive improvement to the original (although a very few may prefer the original, hence Dori's warning), so just play as normal.

In particular the Barbarian,Monk,Wild mage and Sorcerer are the new classes

Besides that though, each of the old classes have new "specialties" so don't choose any of the following specialties if you want to play a purist

Bard including Blade, Jester and Skald
Thief including Assassin, Bounty Hunter and Swashbuckler

Cleric including Specialty Priests of Talos, Lathander and Helm
Druid including Avenger, Shapeshifter, and Totemic Druid

Fighter including Berserker, Kensai, and Wizardslayer
Paladin including Cavalier, Inquistor, and Undead Slayer

This is how I think it works.
Ranger including Archer, Beastmaster and Stalker
Whats the banter pack?

rooshandark8: Whats the banter pack?
Banter packs make your NPCs more talkative with one another. There's one for pre-made BG2 NPCs as well as ones for downloadable NPCs. If you want additional mods check out this page.
You wanna try something badass, try the assassinations mod. Adds a dark and evil sidequest and storyline to bg2. Makes the game more playable for the evil characters and has a lot of different branches the storyline can go. I think theres a romance too, although prally a sadistic one.
This is gonna sound silly...but after installing BGT and all the other mods, what do I run to start the whole BGT? Running my existing shortcuts for BG1 and 2 just bring up the standalone games.

Your existing shortcut for BG2 should do it. It's not immediately obvious though. Fire it up, choose Baldur's Gate, then Single Player. On the upper left of the next menu will be 'New Game', which is a new BG1 game. On the lower right (under Load Game) will be 'New BG2 Game' (which is a new BG2:SoA game).

That is correct. Plus you may now uninstall the original BG1 installation if you'd like.
While trying to extract BG2 fixpack (from Gibberlings3), into my BG2 directory, I keep getting a fatal error claiming it is unable to find dialog.tlk, and that I should extract into an infinity engine game directory. This is my BG2 directory that I am running and extracting in, so any ideas why this may be happening? Thanks for any help!

nevermind, I'm a moron. Figured it out.

Just wanted to say thanks for putting up a tutorial for this type of mod. I played BG1 back in the day but never got around to BG2 and I love the idea of linking them together into one giant game.

Unfortunately I found this thread after already starting BG1 and now I'm just about to finish the game. Even though I'm dying to try the mod I really don't want to start a new game. Has anyone tried the mod on an already existing saved game?

Am about to upgrade my PC from XP to Win 7 (yea, I know). So, am wondering, will I just be able to move my modded BG2 setup and play? Or will I have to reinstall?

Also, is there a way to find out just what you selected for the tweak pack? In case I have to reinstall?

and many thanks for all the work this community has put into this game series!
