stixbones: Some users experience a problem with Baldur Gates Enhanced Edition - the game crashes at start-up. Usually, the evilish reason behind the crash is in integrated graphics card. While sometimes driver update or compatibility mode change can help, there's another solution, that can work when everything else has failed. The crash happens due to OpenGL implementation of BGEE, so all what's need to be done is simply changing the rendering backend.

While in Steam version of the game, you can do that by editing 'baldur.lua' (located in '%DOCUMETS%\Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition'), in GOG version this file is missing. Instead, search for the 'engine.lua' in game installation folder and add the following line:

SetPrivateProfileString('Graphics','Backend','1')

caerdwyn: None of the above worked for me (Windows 11 fresh install, build 22631, AMD integrated Radeon graphics on a 5700G). Tried running/installing as Administrator, running compatibility mode Win7, making sure OpenAL was installed, all that. No luck. Crash + dump on launch.

BUT. What DID work for me...

In engine.lua in the same directory as the game (C:\GOG Games\Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition for me, manual install), set the engine mode to Baldur's Gate 2. Thus:

engine_mode = 1 -- 0 = BGEE, 1 = BG2EE, 2 = IWDEE

Best of luck as Microsoft continues to trip over its own dangling tentacles!
Greetings bro, I'm also trying to run Baldurs Gate Enhanced Edition on Win 11 and nothing works, even today I found an option in the BIOS that says compatibility legacy games, which I activated but I still get the same error 0xc000007b and it won't let me run, have you had any progress regarding this?
I just found the solution, it turns out the problem is the OpenAL32 that installs the oalinst.

Here is a guide, just delete the old one so the new one is installed
